Hi all,

SCCC Mavericks 182 for NO LOSS (Ritesh kadu 85 Not Out, Prumjot 84 Not out)

Beat Sunnyvale Entourage 144 for 6 wickets in 20 overs (Ganesh 1
wicket, Sunny 1 wicket, Guru 1 wicket, Nachiket 1 wicket, Rohit.P 1
wicket, krish 1 wicket)

Ganesh, Guru and Nachiket bowled really well.

Vellanki and vijay Bhai bowled 2 beautiful Slowest overs to ensure
that sunnyvale was grounded (Both bowled 1 faster ball each to deceive
the batsman :)

Guru the legend was moving the ball and was at his best.

Ritesh kadu and prumjot scored an unbeaten First wicket partnership
which was the best ever at SCCC in all forms.

Prumjot got one life at 40 but otherwise brilliant execution of
batting were displayed by both batsman and plenty of doubles and
threes to get the score to 182.

Newbies also performed and took some good catches. 100% catching today
was the highlight

Also chandu who used his wedding ring as bowling marker :) during last
practice session is still a mystery.

I am a proud SCCCian to see so many good talent on our field.

Mavericks beat Mustangs at home - Sun Nov 14 - Match Report - Winter T 20

SCCC Mavericks beat Mustangs by 82 runs

SCCC Mavericks 194 for 1 wicket in 20 overs
(Ritesh kadu 84 Not Out, krish 42 Not Out, Prumjot 33, Harris 4/0/43/1)

SCCC mavericks started cautiously against Srikanth and hiren and were
20 runs in 5 overs. Next 15 overs yielded 174 runs due to great
batting display by Ritesh kadu and krish Goel where both of them
stayed not out. Prumjot played a fine innings of 33 and got bowled by
Harris before he was out infact the only wicket lost for Mavericks.
Mustangs had full of youth well lead by Prateek, Shrikanth and Kiran.
They bowled 30 extras which could have reduced the Mavericks total and
had been Chaseable. In 20/20 winning and losing difference are those
extras which bite back badly.
Mustangs lost wicket but Kiran played an outstanding innings of 47
using his feet to spinners infact Mavericks had 7 Spinners at their
disposal. Jagat was unplayable and bowled with so much accuracy.
krishna, Ismail and Manoj bowled well. 9 Bowlers used by Mavericks.
Rookie bowler Kailash got a wicket as well. Mavericks bowled 15 wides
with all spinners also not a great effort.

All In all good game of cricket and good to see lot of upcoming
youngsters playing. Great job by Rajesh Suthar managing the team.

Shiva and Rohith had a good partnership to get Sox to a very good
total at SCCC ground. Shiva played a chanceless innings of 66 with
great composure. Rohith played a cameo of 23. Vicky bowled well fro
CVCC. CVCC was way below run rate by 15th over to be anywhere close to
chase 147 and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Sunny Bowled
really well to take 3 wickets. Ganandeep and Venkat gave a dream start
with the new ball for sox removing top 3 wickets in 7 overs. Prumjot
came in and bowled a stingy spell of 3 overs for 7 runs and removedd 3
wickets to add more trouble to CVCC's chase.

Game played in good spirits.

Match Report - Bees v/s Spartan @ Home - May 22nd Sunday

SCCC Bees 219/9 (Dawood 59, Govind 31, Pritpal 32, Ravi V 22) beat

Spartan ~107 all out (Amit S 4 wkts, Puneet/Shailu 2 wkts each, Sujesh
/ Ravi.B 1 wicket each)

. Excellent start was provided by Dawood and Govind. They added ~80
runs for the 1st wicket.
. After Govind got run out, top order collapsed and Bees were reduced to 146/6.

. Ravi V and Priptal had 50+ runs partnership and steered us to a very
defendable target of 219.

. Shailu derailed Spartan's chase by getting couple of early break
throughs. Puneet and Amit Sharma bowled well and ensured that Spartans
never had any sniff of victory. Sujju bowled nagging line and length
and was unlucky just to get one wicket.

SCCC does Golf - again

For the second year in a row, the SCCC contingent that was present were in great spirits, and this was before any spirits made it into their respective systems. After checking in and buying a ton of mulligans (because I need them) we trooped out to our carts where we waited for the shotgun start to our respective assigned holes. SCCC started on Hole # 5 with one of our 4 carts finding a rather creative route to it by traversing holes 2,3 and 4 on the way... lets just say we wanted a fuller experience before the first tee shot.

Santa Clara Golf and Tennis course on Tasman is a nice enough place to play golf and has relatively few hazards. The excellent weather and of course SCCC camaraderie was always going to make it a great day away from work. We tee-ed off approximately at 1pm.

Hole # 16 was sponsored by SCCC and SCCC 1 team got a par on this one, so I'm assuming that SCCC 2 foursome had a birdie.

SCCC 1 did pick up an Eagle on the Par 5 - 496 yards - Hole # 14 due to Harsha's heroics of getting us out of the rough on our tee shots and hitting a brilliant recovery shot onto the green, just a few feet from the hole.

The tournament organizer Jeff Driggs was obviously delighted to have us on the course and since we were seemingly the only non- City government entity there, we got some special attention as the Cricket Club guys who also play golf. Overall it was a friendly atmosphere though I did try to trash talk Fareed and then got it back on last tee shot when I accidentally tapped the ball off the tee with my practice swing ;)

There was a decent buffet afterwards.. and for those who stayed and participated, a raffle too.

I'm looking forward to doing this again next year.

SCCC were represented by members Fareed, Sunil, Shahab, Harsha and Puneet and guests Ravi and Colin participated in to make it a 4some and a 3some. We hope we'll have 3 foursomes next year.

Good batting by Arjun and Shiva set up comprehensive victory for SCCC
II. Arjun played a master class innings. Shiva played a brilliant
innings with full control to support him. SCCC-II were 47 in 17 overs.
Chanceless innings by Arjun and Shiva for a 200 run partnership was
key and it was treat to watch. Shiva Missed another ton timing a ball
too well where imran nana took a very well judged catch. Carmo played
a blinder for his 36 where he hit the ball cleanly to the longest part
of the boundaries at santa clara ground. Apurva Chacha (Magic chacha)
took a blinder at short mid wicket to get carmo out. Mukund bowled 3
maidens and picked up 3 wickets. Saad cleaned up the top order and was
literally unplayable using his variations.

Umpiring by Jaggy and Ganesh Sanap was of very high standards.

After months of work, we are pleased to announce that our facility rebuild (container, trolley, shelving, scoreboard, and cages) is complete.

Today, the netting work was done in the morning followed by installing matts (one new one), covering up the runup area etc. thanks to ashish and Krishna for superving the work in the afternoon. Thanks to sunil for coming in the evening.

Although, an official opening cermony will be scheduled for next week, let the net practices begin...

Man of the Match : Jaggi

Union City won the toss and had no hesitation in choosing to bat on a
beautiful day and lovely Santa Clara ground. Santa Clara started
really well picking up both Jigar and Ajay early with just 12 on the
board after 6 very tight overs. Santa Clara continued with their tight
bowling and made runs very difficult to come by for UCCC. However,
Ranvir and Raiyan stiched together a 93 runs partnership to lay the
foundation down. Ranveer scored an excellent 47 as Raiyan provided
support at the other end with 38. However, it was young Krish that
provided the breakthrough picking up both Ranveer and Raiyan in quick
succession at the 32nd over with 112 on board. Suddenly the UCCC
innings came apart with Kitty, Happy and Kamal also getting out soon
thereafter as Krish kept picking up wickets. However, a very good 22
from Bobby and 21 from Jaggi in a 42 run crucial partnership provided
UCCC with a moderate total as UCCC bundled out for 164 in 45 overs.
Krish bowled brilliantly to pick up 6 for 38 to wreck the UCCC innings
completely. Risheet also bowled really well to pick up 2 for 22 in his
8 overs. SC-2 bowling was tight and miserly as ever.

Santa Clara started well with Sunil attacking from the word go but
Ranveer picked up two quick wickets of Krishna and Hirsh to get UCCC
back into the game. In came Krish at 4 and looked really good. A
bowling change brought Happy into the attack as he cleaned up Krish
immediately to a ball that swung a little. Suddenly UCCC had a sniff
at defending the small total. As Shehriyar picked up Sunil SC-2 was
down 4 for 61. Jigar held on to an excellent catch to dismiss the
dangerous Arjun off Jaggi. Jaggi cleaned up the remaining tail to pick
up 4 for 5 runs off 5 overs and 1 maiden. In the end it was an
excellent bowling performance from UCCC bowling lineup and finally
stepped up when it mattered today. The potential for this bowling
lineup is immense and hope UCCC carry on in the same vein for the rest
of the season.

Umpiring at it's best and played a crucial role in this game adding
more trouble to SCCC-II's current situation.

SCCC-Bees will bounce back soon from this after a good long weekend.

SCCC-II won the toss and elected to bat. Govind and Arjun started the
proceedings. Arjun got bowled to Doanne and SCCC-II played well with
harsh and Govind stitching a good partnership together for 64 runs.
Dashrath and Doanne helped with few wides otherwise for a very steady
attack. Harsh got out getting a thin edge to keeper. Umpire ruled not
out since it wasn't evident. Harsh walked and showed true
sportsmanship making SCCC proud. Cougars team applauded the effort.
SCCC-II never got going other than little krish Goel batting like a
champion with crisp drives, backfoot punches and immaculate placements
against a very spirited and disciplined attack. Sujesh and krishna
fell cheaply and this added more concerns but Prumjot and krish showed
why they belong to the higher division by playing smartly taking
singles and 2s and occassionaly found the odd boundaries. SCCC-II
managed to score 40 odd runs between 43rd over to 48th over. Sujesh
played an irresponsible shot against Montu to put SCCC-II in further
trouble being caught at deep mid wicket. krishna was caught by Sunny
off a Blinder with left hand at cover point(Jonty Singh). Disaster
struck when krish was run out in the 47th over to a close call and
SCCC-II lost last 4 wickets for 1 run winding up for 171 in 49.1
overs. Ayan bowled leg spinners with immaculate control and he killed
the middle overs for SCCC-II which was the turning point. krishna,
majid and montu supported him well. Dashrath bowled a 7 over tight
spell.

Cougars-I started their batting with Sunny and Ankur. Sunny got out
early to Sujesh and Cougars went to defensive mode with Govind and
Hamel bowling exceptionally well choking runs. Saami joined Ankur and
wasn't able to move the score. Ankur hit a six and 4 to up the rate
but fell soon to Govind. Arsh found it difficult to score with his
favourite leg side fully covered by fielders and fell to the trap by
flicking to short fine leg. Saami played a powerful shot to extra
cover and govind plucked off a one-handed catch. Majid and krishna did
the recovery act by playing carefully. Sujesh trapped Majid infront
and more worries at the cougars camp even though they bat really
really long (up to #10). SCCC-II did well to restrict in the middle
overs. Montu Joined krishna and looked in very good touch hitting his
trade mark bullet shot. Krishna remained calm as usual and batted with
a purpose. He hit jut one boundary in his 44 Not out. He proved again
why he is such a reliable batsman in NCCA. Montu tried to cut and got
out to sujesh's bowling when everything was going fine. Bhargava
joined krishna and played steady. Bhargave got run out and Cougars
needed 52 runs in last 10 overs with 3 wickets. SCCC let go the golden
opportunity created by krish Goel who is known for changing games with
his tight off spinners in the death. Arjun mis-judged a catch and
didn't get to it at Long-off. This was all that was needed for Ayan
and he played sensibly and opened shoulders for anything marginally
fuller. he continued his form from morning via bat this time and
scored a breezy 39 runs and cougars finished off in style in 48.2
overs. Satish Bowled well but catches went asking in no-mans land.
This game had ups and downs and at one point it was SCCC-II to lose
this game and it happened. All Credit to krishna for putting his head
down and batting till the team is through. Hamel bowled a tidy spell
just giving away 14 runs in his 10 overs including death overs.

Bees lost by 6 wickets - April 18 -2010 - Season Beginner against Stanford CC

HI All,

Bees batting from 130 for 5 in 34 overs got cleaned up in 40 overs for
139 runs (last 5 wickets for 9 runs). Govind, Prum and harsh gave a
great start bit didn't capitalize on it.

Lot of them batting after a while showed some rustiness. (But this was
a game for Bees to lose)

Arjun 36, Govind 31, Krish 25. All got starts but didn't convert to big ones.

Stanford were 37 for 4 in 17 overs and then Rishi and Prithvi put dead
bat to ensure they didn't lose further wickets. Rishi 67*and Prithvi
38 not out.

Satish bowled with fire and got 2 wickets for 22 runs. Govind bowled
beautifully with the new ball and removed their opener Vinay.

Everyone bowled well and stanford batted 40 overs to get to the score
but Bees didn't have enough runs on board to Defend it. Catching and
fielding were good.

Rajan Yadav had a good debut and bowled very well with the new ball.

Bees will kick back next game against the 'COUGARS".

MCC 112 for 9 in 45 overs(Montgomery 22, Pearson 38, kamalia 17,
(Imran,Sourabh, Samarth 2 wickets each, Hamza, Saqib 1 wicket each and
1 run out)

NWR 113 for 2 in 32.4 overs(Nauman 47 NOT OUT, Shantanu 17, Majeed 16,

On a bright sunday Morning MCC (Lords Cricket CLub) were at SCCC
ground to play against NWR (North West Region) Cricket team. The
Outfield was nicely mowed for a perfect day of cricket despite the
rains for past one month. MCC had a good openign stand without no loss
for 30 runs in 12 overs. NWR opening bowler Imran Khan bowled with
fire and gave nothign away in his first spell. Hamza supported him
well from the other end. Due to MCC playing on a astro turf for the
first time they weren't able to play the shots they normally do. First
break through came when hamza got Kamalia caught by Ashok for 17 (36
balls) at mid off. Montgomery and pearson stitched a nice partnership
of 30 runs to ensure there are no further wicket loss. Shantanu and
Srnivas Bowled Tidy but wren't able to get Montgomery or Pearson
out.Disaster struck in the form of a brilliant piece of fielding by
shantanu @ mid off struck by Montgomery. He scored 22 (68 balls). NWR
Skipper Vijay controlled the innings well by introducing Spin earlier
and life became difficult for MCC batsman to score against Accurate
left arm spinner Samarth Shah. pearson held one end and batted
beautifully for his 38 runs. Runs Dried up once Samarth bowled a dream
spell of (9-6-4-2). Sourabh legg spinner of current USA National team
was introduced and further damage for MCC. They just couldn't get any
pace from the ball to increase the run rate. Saqib started bowling leg
breaks and googlies from the other end and MCC really got tied down
and lost wickets. Saqib got the important wicket of Pearson. Imran
Khan came back for his second spell and cleaned up 2 more wickets for
the MCC to finish @ 112 runs in 45 overs. Vijay mixed the bowlers well
and ensured MCC never got to flier and could never pace up the innings
during the death overs.

Lunch served by NWR in English style with tea and sandwiches. Nauman
Mustafa the USA probable who missed out due to his Pilgrimage trip
opened with Majeed. MCC started with friedlander who bowled with good
pace and generated a lot of bounce which NWR players haven't faced
before. Great experience for the batsman from USA to face Quality
attack. He bowled 6 overs for 16 runs. Nauman and Majeed played
carefully to take the score to 42 in 12 overs for no loss. Bartram and
Hodson bowled well to contain but since the score was a gettable one
NWR played to a plan to execute with less errors. MCC kept attacking
from both ends and it was nice to see bowlers moving ball both ways
which is a rare scene in our leagues. These exposure can only graduate
our batsman to the next level. Bartram struck in the 13 over to get
Majid edged to second slip. Majid scored a patient 16 (34 balls).
Shantanu Divekar walks into bat on his home ground with the backing of
home support and an excellent 2009 season with tons of runs. Shantanu
and Nauman played proper cricket where MCC was expecting them to play
int eh air and then come back into the game. Shantanu got run otu
scoring 17 (47 balls) after a mix up with Nauman. Disappointed batsman
walks back after getting his eye in. In walks a talent who had done
really well in his younger days as a front line batsman. Srinivas
Joiend Nauman and ensured no further damage and They both tackled all
that was offered by MCC to reduce any hope of victory for MCC. Azaz
akhtar bowled really well for his 5 overs and gave just 9 runs away
but it was too late to come back into the game. The Target was achived
in 32.4 overs. NWR took 0.4 overs more than what the Coach had asked
the batsman during first drinks break to finish the game with a risk
free approach. Nauman walked back in grand style carrying the bat
scoring 47 NOT OUT (98 Balls) and making NWr feel proud by beating MCC
with 8 wickets in hand.

The game was played in great spirits and thanks to NWr administrators
for such a wonderful opportunity. Thanks to Santa Clara Cricket Club,
team Manager Mahendra Patel and the volunteers for the tireless job in
getting the ground ready for high level cricket.

MCC (Marylebone Cricket Club) v/s NWR (North West Region) hosted by SCCC on Sunday March 21st, 2010

MCC (Marylebone Cricket Club) -Lords Cricket Club is visiting USA for
a one month tour which includes a game @ our ground (1840 Benton St. Santa Clara CA 95050).

California Itinerary:
They are playing against SWR-NWR combined and a 20/20 against
Hollywood cc on March 19th and 20th. They have a game against
SCA(Sacramento) on March 24th.

On the way back they are playing against USA national team at Florida

We should feel privileged to have a game of this Quality at our
ground. (This is one level above representative games)

For a change MCC opted to play the game in a traditional manner with
white clothes and red ball (Kookaburra)

Sox won the toss and elected to bat first. Govind and Chandu opened for Sox.Chandu got out in the 5th overs when the score was 35. Malav joined Govind, both of them played some aggressive shots and had a good partnership of 40 runs.Malav was second to go in the 11th over when he was caught brillantly at deep mid wicket.In 11 overs the score read 80 for 2. Prasad joined Govind and could not stay long as he was run out. Kartik Raina joined Govind and both played well and had a quick partnership of 23 runs. In 16th over

Govind got out. In 16 overs score read 119 for 4.

Hardik Joined Kartik Raina.Hardik played some huge shots and kept the score board moving.This time Kartik Raina got run out in the 17th over.Kunal Joined Hardik and both started playing fast trying to get as many runs in the last overs.Kunal got out in the 19th over. Kartik bhat joined Hardik and trying to give strike to Hardik got run out. Promjot joined Hardik and in the last ball got run out.Sox was able to score147 for 8 in 20 overs.

Sox opened the bowling with Kartik Raina and Umar. In the first 3 overs Berkeley lost the opener Darshak who was trying to take the third run and a good throw by Umar got him run out.

In the 4th over Umar bowled the second opener and the score read 22 for 2 in 4 overs.

Sox had the first bowling change and in the first over Kunal got Kunal out. In 5 overs the score read 24 for 3.Berkeley 4th wicket partnership start building Hemang and Tejas had a 42 run partnership.The score at the end of 12 overs read 66 for 3

Berkeley needed 82 runs in 8 overs with 7 wickets in hand.In the 13th over second ball jagat got Hemang out a brillant catch by Malav and in the 5th ball jagat got the new batsmen out stumped by Prumjot.In the 15th over jagat got two back to back wickets and was on hatrick.In 15th over the score read 87 for 7. In the 19th over jagat got one more wicket and in the last over Kartik Raina got two wickets, both the catches taken by Kartik bhat.

Finally Berkeley lost all the wickets for 107. Sox won the game by 40 runs.

Match Report: SCCC-II started the game in a positive fashion with both
Arjun and Govind mixing caution and aggression to put on a healthy 65
run opening wicket partnership in the first session. Cardinals got
back into the game with some excellent bowling from Mushi , Saeed ,
Sikander and Abbas Jaffery. From 65 for no loss , SCCC-II went on to
lose their 10 wickets for just 100 more runs in the next two sessions.

Cardinals started the chase with Anwar playing some big shots out of
the gate. He scored 44 with 3 6's and 4 4's. After his dismissal ,
Cardinal put together partnerships for each wicket that safely took
them home with 6 wickets to spare. Sikander , Abbas J and Shahzad all
played crucial knocks to secure the victory.

Slow outfield at Marin but the wicket is a Beauty. Marin started with
Nirosh and Zee. They played well till the 8th over and put almost 30
runs on Board. Nirosh Started with a beatiful inside out shot over
extra covers for a huge six but trying too many shots at one point got
him out and the collapse started from then on. Hamel Bowled
beautifully with amazing outswingers to right handers and removed
Saqib with the help of a brilliant catch by umesh at second slip with
his left hand. Saad removed Shoaib who tried to settle in with some
shots and edged one to keeper. The score suddenly reads 40 for 4. Zee
got out to a soft dismissal after settling down nicely. Shantanu was
on fire from ball one. he was bowling with lively pace and Marin
already on backfoot looking for a special knock from OZair and RD. RD
gloved a ball down the leg from shantanu which could have been a wide.
Great sportsmanship by RD walking as soon as the wicket keeper caught
the ball. Even the umpire was not sure nor anyone in the field about
the glove. (RD always walks so it's not new and always played with
good spirits). Ozair was tryignt or rebuild with Everton but MArin
already 5 down for 49. Ozair got a beauty from shantanu which squared
him up and edged the ball to Wicket keeper. Everton got bowled to
another inswinging yorker from shantanu. Gautam alogn with Faraz put a
small partnership where faraz hit few shots to take the score to 60
for 7. Gautam played Carefully. Faraz gt bowled tryign to pull vijith.
Rishi walked in and hit few shots and got bowled to Sujesh. Last man
to get out was gautam off vijith's bowling.

Innings started immediately. SUjesh and Sunil Opened for SCCC I. Sunil
got out first trying to oull faraz when the score was 15. Umesh and
sujesh Batted together for few overs when marin was givign nothign
away with some good bowling from hamza and faraz. Gautam introduced to
the attack and Sujesh flicked a ball and took elading edge to short
extra covers and got out. 88 was an easy target for a strong SCCC I
battign line up at marin wicket since it's a batting paradise once you
settle in. SCCC I made it interesting when SHiva mistimed a pull
straight to zee of Faraz's Bowling. Shantanu opted to bat low to give
others a chance. In walked Sunil.S the wicket keeper who had a great
day behind stumps. Sunil.S played some good shots and took the score
to 70 runs. Lunch was taken and Just when things looked almost over
SCCC I created soem climax by a soft dismall of Umesh by Nirosh where
he hit a drive straight back at him. Sunil.S tried to play a cut and
got out to saqib caught by RD. Saad and Shantany ensured there is no
more damage and Saad played 2 glorious shots in his short stay. Game
got over soon and an excellent day with a low scoring game.

After winning the toss seas opened the batting with Dinesh P, playing his last game for SCCC, and Ravi V. In the midst of some tight bowling seas ended the the first session at 57/1. After this Seas lost the way in the second session where the entire middle order got out to soft dismissals against the run of play, which left the seas struggling at 113/6. In the last session Nisarg (Modern day Miandad) and the Hardik had a brilliant partnership, followed by another good innings from Mangesh to push the Seas to 206. These days a score around 200 on our field gives a fighting chance but not necessarily a winning one.

Seas went in to field determined to put up a good display and the opening bowlers Dinesh and Saurabh were tidy to prevent SMCC from getting of to a flier. However several catches were dropped by usually reliable fielders through all three sessions which resulted in a comfortable win for SMCC.

Umpiring from Ganesh S (umpired from both ends) was excellent. Seas hope to come back strongly in the game.

Game which went to the Wire on a superb outfield where Saqib played
with the maturity to Win games single handedly when Marin required 90
runs in last 13 overs to win. Zee played an amazing knock as opener
playing some splendid cover drives finding gaps. Santa Clara II
started well with 80 for 2 and then gettign to 150 for 3, Chandru
batted sensisibily to score 43. Shiva and Chandrodaya batted
brilliantly to take the score to 220 for 3 in 46 overs. Lost few
wickets to accelerate in the end and hamza came back well in second
spell to capture 3 wickets. Imran Nana bowled well to control runs.
Nirosh had an off day and the score board says it all. Marin were 60
for 5 including shoaib, Zulfkil their new australian left handed
batsman. Ozair and Saqib did a good recovery to settle down and chase
the score. Saqib batted superbly with the lower order to ensure
victory was reached in style. Nirosh and Rishi gave good support to
Saqib. The shot of the day was a switch hit from saqib which went over
covers for a 4. Marin thoroughly deserve to Win this game for the
calmness saqib showed by playing an innings without giving a single
chance. Good Knock Saqib.

I will update accurate scores once i have the score sheet for batsman
and bowlers.

Jaggi and Mahesh did an excellent Job umpiring.

Caribbean started the proceedings with Sher and Sami (from Cougars) as Seas started the bowling with Dinesh and Saurabh. Dinesh who was unable to hold on to a return catch of the 4th ball of the innings, had Sami caught behind in the 9th over. At the other end Saurabh bowled good line to pick the crucial wickets of Sher, caught at mid on and Saqib (Marin CC) played on while playing a pull shot. After that the remaining caribbean batsman had no answer to the banana inswing of Hiren and the accuracy of Mangu. Caribbean played with 10 players and were eventually bundled out of 56.

Seas started the innings with Chandu and yours truly, and inspite of loosing Chandu early scored the required runs in 11.5 overs. Harsh played some good shots in the end to finish the innings quickly.

Seas will look forward to carry the momentum in to the next games.

Match Report:

Kamal.D and Jigar Patel gave Valley-I a dream start without giving a
single chance in first 15 overs scoring 81 runs. Shafiq gettign otu
first ball after such a great start reduced atleats 50 runs from
Valley-I's score. Happy with an exceptional knock along with a matured
Ranveer played sensibly for Valley-I. Happy played some nice scoops to
leg side and played within himself. They both had 85 runs partnership
for the 5th wicket. Ranveer started openign up and got caught at point
by shiva of Imran's bowling. Appu Chacha magic man again gave crucial
breakthroughs and broke the opening partnership which was goign steady
with a beauty. Ashok hit some lusty blows int he end to give an extra
boost and Valley-I ended up scoring 255 runs. Prumjot kept wickets
really well for santa clara-II. Saad Bowled well but didn't get any
wickets.

Lunch was served and a super hot day where 130 bottles of water got
emptied a blinder and top notch knock form Arjun and another classy
knock from Shiva gave no hope for valley other than toiling them on a
hot day with long boundaries at SCCC.

Fast outfield and medium pace bowlers didn't help Valley-I restrict
Santa Clara-II on a hot day after putting 255 on board. This is
probabaly the highest winning run chase at SCCC since 1987. Icing on
the cake was the 8 wicket victory. Arjun didn't let any bowlers settle
down and hit only 10 boundaries and a six to get to his hundred, Shiva
hit 11 boundaries. The runnign between wickets was exceptional and
that put a lot of pressure on Valley-I fielders. Sandeep started well
with some good offspinners and leg spinners mixed up but got hit on
his hand to stop a shot form arjun and got hurt badly. The extra cover
drive which went like lightning from shiva's bat to get to hundred was
a treat to watch. Arjun played some shots where the fielders hardly
moved. It took a while for Vally-I fielders to get used to fast
outfield and a Mature batting display proved that anything is
chaseable anywhere. Arjun was due for a big innings and wouldn't have
come at a better stage chasing 255 to perform at his best. Shiva is
batting with so much poise where it shows the hunger and grit to score
big every game.

Excellent umpiring by Rohan and Shashi ended the day beautifully with
a good day of cricket.

Good day of cricket where it was a Harsh and little Krish Show.

SCCC Bees Batted first and lost the first wicket due to a mix up in
the middle. Imran Khan started well and had to go back to pavilion due
to this Mix up. Kenny Was bolwing well with the new ball moving the
ball like crazy. Shahbaz bowled well but bowled too many extras. Harsh
Joined chandru and stitched a 32 runs partnership by 15th over and
score was 42 for 2. Chandru got out scoring 18 runs after settling
down. Arjun joined Harsh and looked good but didn't last long. Kenny
got him bowled foxing him on a drive. Score read 56 for 3 in 17 overs.
kenny finsihed an amzaing spell just giving away 23 runs in 10 overs.
Chandrodaya soon followed Arjun and the score read 67 for 4 in 21
overs. Sujesh tried to recover the situation and had a small
partnership of 23 runs with harsh and got out for 13 to kaka's
bowling. Score reached 90 for 5 in 30 overs. In walks 15 year old
krish Goel given a new Role to perform under pressure. He looked good
from ball one and carried his form from central valley after hitting
the winning runs. This was the turning point. Harsh and krish counter
attacked and kept scoring easily. Deep was bowling with lot of fire
and lot of zip. The 6th wicket partnership took the score to 131 runs
in 38 overs. Harsh got out to a soft dismissal playign too early on a
half tracker from Steve. Harsh had a scored a brilliant 42 when he got
out. Appu joined krish and had another 27 runs partnership. Hardki
followed Appu very next ball. Sonu removed both of them in Quick
succession. krish played shots and rotated strike to ensure the score
board kept moving. He batted with purpose and didn't get bogged down.
Score reached 158 for 8 in 44 overs. Krish and kabir played very
sensibly and took the score to 180 runs and kabir tried to accelerate
in the last over and got out scoring 14 runs. Imran got out very next
ball and SCCC Bees scored 180 and got all out in 49.2 overs. ground
was nicely mowed but due to heavy sprinklers since friday evening
outfield was kind of slow. krish remained unbeaten scoring 32 runs.
Sonu took 4 wickets for 35 runs.

Good food served to the visitors to keep them smiling and started the
second session which is crucial since you never know what's up
United's sleeve and what's a good target especially with Deep back in
the team.

SCCC bees started bowling with Hardik and didn't get a good start
since he wasn't able to control the swing as it was super windy at
SCCC ground for a change. Chandrodaya Bowled at the other end with
amazing control and tied down runs. Hardik got Atif out LBW trying to
hit over mid wicket after he got to a flyer with some unconventional
Shots. kenny was nicely settling down at the other end playing with
patience. Magician Appu Chacha bowled his regulation inswinging
yorker and hit kenny low on the pads when he tried to stretch far and
flick the ball. United got to 19 for 2 in 5 overs. Sonu was settling
down and sujesh got him edged off the gloves and a low catch taken
cleanly by harsh. United-I score read 41 runs for 3 wickets in 11
overs. The Match began to swing in United's Favour when Deep Joined
Ajay. Ajay batted beautifully with a straight bat and was finding it
difficult to dislodge him. chandrodaya finsihed a fine spell of 10
overs 4 maidens 15 runs without any luck. Appu, Sujesh, Imran bowled
well but there was not even a half chance which went Bees way. Deep
looked in great touch and he is wlays the danger man since once he
gets to 40 Plus runs the history says he finish games since he hits
clean and have a good defense. SCCC Bees kept the run rate under check
and United always need 4 to 5 runs per over. Rush of blood got into
deep after he hit Apu chacha for a leg side swipe in the 43rd over
when United-I wre right in the chase with an uppe rhand requiring just
37 runs in 8 overs with 7 wickets in hand. Appu got Deep bowled when
he repeated the shot and from then on it's history. Deep scored a
brilliant 78 runs. Ajay was well settled batting with 42 and Sanjay
joined him. United batting was tall and SCCC bees kept their hope
alive since spinners were bowling well and runs weren't easy to come.
Ajay and Steve took the score to 155 in 15 th over and Ajay went
bizzare on a straight ball from krish which hit him below the stump
level. Big wicket at that moment since he never looked like getting
out till then. 5 overs 26 runs with 5 wickets in hand. Tarun Joined
Steve and disaster struck again in the form of run out. Full blooded
drive to Mid off and harsh made no mistake and turned the game with a
direct hit since tarun is normally a busy cricketer who look for
singles which ohters in the team don't. Score read 157 for 6 in 45. 3
overs. Kunal joined Steve. Imran went wicketless after 8 good overs.
krish was bowling with lot of discipline and they were hardly able to
score 2 runs off him. He was gettign into good rhythm after getting
Ajay out. Sanjay was key player at this moment. Kunal played well but
rush off blood to hit Magic chacha man ended up with a brilliant catch
again by harsh right behind bowlers head. Score reads 164 for 7
wickets in 47 overs. United needed 16 runs in 3 overs. Game got
interesting. Now it's run rate and cool head. krish Bowled the 47th
over and ended up with a hattrick. Ball one: Sanjay(Steve) caught
superbly at deep sqaure leg by Harsh Saini again. Steve stood grounds
since he couldn't beleive it. Ball two: Sanket new batsman caught at
short extra cover by sujesh . Equation got interestign now . I wicket
in hand and requires 15 runs in 10 balls. Ball three: Shahbaz one big
shot into the orbit behind the bowlers head and sujesh called for it
and there ends United's hope of winning this game after such a
beautiful partnership between Deep and Ajay. Kaka (Joginder) didn't
get to face a single ball. United were hesitant to take singles and
that digged their own hole in the end. krish Goel 14 year Old's first
hattrick that too in A-div. All smiles from supporters and players.
Men of the Match: krish Goel (32 Not out and 4 wickets including a
hattrick) and Harsh Saini (42 runs 3 catches and a direct hit run
out). Amazing come back to pull this victory from opponents hands.

Better weather this time. Excellent bowling in the first half of the
day pretty much sealed the game but did make it interesting with SCCC
losing few wickets in the middle to make the game interesting. Kids
have come fo Age and showed how important role they play. Prumjot
batted with purpose and scored a masterful 22 and had a partnership of
35 runs with shantanu who batted from ball 2 to 48.2 overs and carried
the innings with temperament and Class.
Earlier in the day game was controlled in the middle by spinners.
Sujesh and Krish bowled 17 overs among them for a mere 30 runs. They
tried to up the run rate in the last ten overs but Apu chacha again
did the majic by firing yorkers and unplayable balls. CVCC finished
with 169 runs on board and got all out in 49.1 overs. Carmo played
very cautiously but just when he started to accelerate krishna got him
otu at slips via an excellent catch at slips by chandrodaya. Rana was
batting well and was caught by Ashish off Shanatanu's bowling to end
their hopes. Kabir kept well and had 3 dismissals.

Excellent lunch served by CVCC. SCCC II started with Imran Khan and
Chandru. Chandru got out first ball after 3 consecutive wides by their
opening bowler Rony. Shantanu walked in with a purpose and batted
well. krishna got otu early and SCCC II lost 3 wickets within 30 runs.
Chandrodaya joined shantanu and it was a treat since they almost
looked like bringing it home without any more drama. candy called for
a non-existing single and got run out to a brilliant piece of fielding
by Carmo. Apu chacha got caught at deep mid wicket and Sujesh followed
to a soft dismissal. Ashish tried to cut and carmo took a test level
catch at slips when the ball was flying. The game was evenly balanced
at this point. Prumjot joined Shantanu and the partnership took the
score to 150 runs with 7 down. Prumjot got out to a soft dismissal to
prabhjot. The game was still open but these kids are too good to give
anythign away. After an amazing spell of 7 overs 18 runs by krish
bowling in the death he followed it by a brisk 10 not out to finish
the game in 48.2 overs.

Great to see kids winning games in A-div and playing smartly along
senior batsman.

Other than excellent batting performance from Malav, who carriend on
from where he left off last game with good support from Harsh, Satish
and Chandra there is not much to speak of in this game. Missing 3
regular bowlers did not help the Seas cause as the bowling was
inconsistent in the midst of some all out attack by Ebay batsmen. The
fielding lacked spark and several dropped catches made it easy for
Ebay. May be there is a lesson or two to be learnt from this loss and
Seas will look forward to bounce back next game.

A Match started with slight drizzle and wet outfield. Santa Clara II
won the toss and elected to bat to put some pressure on heavy weight
cougars batting chasing the score. Cougars started well with Doane
bowling really well and sunny bowling with fire moving the ball both
ways. Santa Clara II were 81 in 21 overs with 3 wickets down. Govind
scored a steady 50 in 62 balls. Chandrodaya looked good for a fifty
and pushed the score along with krishna. Score reads 103 for 4 in 26
overs. Krishna scored 18 and got out. Arjun joiend Chandrodaya and
they took the score at run a ball to 142 in 32 overs for 5 wickets.
Santa Clara II set nicely to score 250 runs. Arjun got out scoring 18
runs. chandrodaya got out scoring 32 caught and bowled followed by
sujesh and to krishna's bowling put some pressure. umesh was calm and
played a good innings mixing caution and agression along with vijith
and ensured we scored 60 runs in last 10 overs and didn't lose any
more wickets. Ball was heavy and seam had swollen up but still held up
for the whole of 50 overs. Outfield dried up towards 35th over and
conditions were bright.

Cougars started by losing Ankur first ball to a soft dismissal to
Govind who was swinging the kookabura ball like crazy. Ayan was
hitting the ball well but unable to negotiate the swing decided to
take charge. Full blooded shot to mid off and well caught by umesh but
bad luck struck to Santa Clara II and it was a No-ball. Ayan settled
down after that and played a calm innings with some good shots. Sunny
was denied strike for 3 overs and finally came to strike and lost
concentration to hit the first ball to Point where vijith took an
exceptional diving catch where everyone know show valuable sunny's
wicket is. Ayan and Shrini had a 31 runs partnership. Ayan got out
scoring 25 runs. Shrinu tried attacking but one chance too many ended
him giving a catch to slip where Arjun took a very low catch. Majid
didn't score single run in the first 16 balls he faced which showed
his intent to stay and bat long. Score reads 4 for 41 runs. Rayan
Joined Majid and stitched in a good partnership of 34 runs. Rayan
wasn't looking comfortable against govind but he dug out few overs and
gave Majid good company. Umesh took a brilliant catch at mid off to
get rayan out. Cougars were 75 for 5 wickets in 19 overs. Run rate
started getting up to 6 runs per over. With the outfield dried up and
with cougars batting depth you never know till it's over. Majid had a
good partnership of 43 runs with Arka. Arka looked deeply
uncomfortable against Sujesh and vijith but played with grit and
scored 15 runs. Vijith bowled him with a beauty. Majid batting at 40s
and have the match winning ability. But we knew once majid gets out
anything can happen. Saami came to bat and edged to gully off appu
chacha's bowling. Govind finished a lovely spell with 4 wickets to top
off his 50 in the morning. majid got run out to a brilliant throw by
prumjot singh from deep covers who was a substitute for chandrodaya
who had a hamstring pull. 74 runs required in 11 overs with 2 wickets
in hand. krishna came lower down the order to bat due to a small back
ache with the help of bye-runner Shrinu. krishna was middling the ball
like he has been batting for 30 overs at the wicket. Manjit gave
krishna good company and the game was alive at 40 runs required of 42
balls with 2 wickets in hand. Sujesh came back to bowl his 8th over
and game got a twist. First ball krishna didn't stretch enough and got
beaten onto the pads and LBW to a straighter ball. Now interesting
with manjit who already started hitting a big six in the previous
over. Next Doane took a single off an inside edge. third ball of the
43rd over Manjit hit literally into the sky against the wind at benton
end and krish takes a clean catch gettign right under it and complete
the win for santa clara-II. Govind got 4 wickets. Sujesh got 2, vijith
got 1, Appu and satish got 1 wicket each.

Excellent game of cricket with some good trash talking and high
intensity with some good food and tons of spectators.

Majid played a Splendid innings and was a threat all the time he was
at the crease.

Umesh'S clam and composed fifty was the difference towards the end and
Vijith's contribution with the bat and ball.

The Man who stole the day was Govind who scored a crucial 50 and broke
the back bone of Cougars by taking 4 wickets. Man-of-the-Match:
GOVIND. U

Match report :

Seas innings : The game started after a 2 min silence from both the
teams for the tragedy that struck Nishant's family. Chandra and Kundam
opened the batting for Seas and by the end of 7th over seas were
reduced to 22/3. Malav and Vicky rebuilt the innings and took the
score to 68 before Vicky got out in the 21st over. Vicky batted with
composure and continued from where he left off in the last game, to
take the Seas out of trouble before he got out trying to up the
scoring rate. While Malav continued his sublime touch with elegant
shots all over the park, Gundan and Nisarg chipped in with cameos to
move the seas along with valuable partnerships. However seas continued
to loose wickets at regular intervals and it was left to Dinesh and
the rest of the tail to bat all 45 overs.The progression of the scores
was, 15 overs- 52/3, 30 overs-127/5.

Stanford A1's innings : Standford A1 were looking for a good start
from Vaibhav and Dhruv however Vaibhav was caught behind chasing a
ball outside the off stump of Kundam. Dhruv continued his wild and
merry ways (batting and talking) but soon Dinesh got in the act by
dismissing the #3 batsman with the ball of the day. The ball swung in
to the left hander from from outside the off stump and straightened
after pitching to uproot the middle stump. Dinesh also picked up
sundaram (lbw) and Dhruv (caught at midoff) after bowling 7 overs on
the trot. In the first session Seas gave away 20 extras (mostly wides)
to allow Stanford A1 reach a scored of 85/4 at the end of 15.Gundon
could not control the swing in the 4 overs he bowled and was replaced
by Hardik. Hardik bowled a superb line at a good pace and with Mangesh
at the other end not only reduced the scoring rate but picked up 3
good wickets to prevent any momemtum in Stanford A1's innings. Kundam
came back for his second spell and picked up a wicket in each of the 3
overs to allow Seas a convincing victory.

Seas will hope to continue the intensity into their future games.

Bees beat United by 2 wickets @ united- April 26th Sunday-match report

Hi all,

Excellent game which had it's own ups and downs.

Finally Bees stole a thriller with the lower order playing positive
and finishing the game.

United 242 for 8 wickets in 50 overs

Lost to

Bees 248 for 8 wickets in 48.5 overs

Bees started the bowling with Govind and Shrish who gave a dream start
@ united by just giving away 30 runs in first 10 overs.United picked
up during last 15 overs and scored 110 in those. United were 132 in 35
overs for 7 wickets. Babby came as a storm and hit some huge sixes and
scored a very valuable 73 not out. Krish got a crucial wicket in the
death overs and Shirish got rid of Kenny who looked dangerous for 20
runs. Satish was unlucky but bowled a controlled agressive spell in
the middle overs. Sujesh got rid of Safdar and Ajay who was holding
one end. Appu Bowled the best for bees by not even giving a single
boundary in his 10 over spell. All charm goes to disciplined start by
Govind and Shirish and good support from Appu, Satish, Krish and
Sujesh. It's never wasy to keep United below 250 at their ground.

Excellent home made lunch provided by kakka from United.

Santa Clara Bees started fluently with chandru settling down and
playing very sensibly with Harsh Saini. Harsh Mixed caution and
agression well to ensure Bees Maintained 5 runs per over. Both of them
took the score to 60 Plus. Harsh got out LBW scoring 25 playing across
the line to a full ball. In walked Appu chachcha and he unsettled
united bowlers with a breezy fifty where once a ball was lost and they
couldn't find it after searching for 20 mins. Match turning point here
as the replacement ball was a Kookabura with lot of shine left.
Chandru and chachcha had a partnership of 60 plus. Chandru got out
caught at mid off, Next over appu got out bowled to a ball which he
missed completely. Govind joined Arjun and got out trying to cut and
Safdar took a sharp chance. Sujesh Joined Arjun requiring 123 runs in
22 overs with 5 wickets in hand. Sujesh and Arjun took the score to
160 and had a 40 runs partnership. Disaster struck again when arjun
mistimed a pull to a ball which kept little low and inside edged to
the stumps. Bees require 83 runs in 15 overs with 4 wickets in hand.
Shirish was Promoted and that worked. Sujesh and Shirish had a 36 runs
partnership. Bees requires 47 runs in 10 overs and shirish got out to
a one-handed catch by Sonu.
In walks Satish and had a partnership with sujesh for 28 runs and got
out to a diving catch by safdar behind the stumps. Match got to little
climax with 14 year old krish walking in requiring 19 runs in 4 overs.
It came down to 9 required in 2 overs. 2 boundaries in first 3 balls
kind of sealed the game with 1 run required in 8 balls. Sujesh sealed
the game with a six over mid wicket to finish the game with 7 balls to
spare. Sujesh Finished on 81 not out with krish Goel to enjoy their
first victory of the season after the loss in the previous game.

Excellent game of cricket with runs flowing all over the place but all
credit to new look sunnyvale-I team in A-div. They did give a surprise
by not giving a wicket in first 10 overs. Second wicket partnership
was killer by scoring 109 runs in next 19 overs. Sheshank played a
gem of an innings of 71 and took the score to 179. Kedar played
fearlessly and with the help of few dropped catches. Abhilash took
chances and got few chances but kept attacking to ensure Sunnyvale-I
scored 250 plus. A surprise batsman in the name of Gautam changed the
whole plan by hitting some shots with the spin and against the spin.
Final score reads 279 which is a big total @ santa clara ground.

Good lunch served by our new caterer Sitara restaurant with soem good
halal chicken. Santa clara started with one batsman less due to an
injury to Ravi shankar on the field durign first session. He couldn't
bat and we went with a new plan. Plan didn't work and all of a sudden
8 for 2 wickets. Kabir and krishna had a valuable 32 runs partnership.
Arjun joined Krishna and then came the best partnership you can
imagien during a chase. Chase looked evenly possible with Arjun and
Krishna playing like live wire finding gaps and hitting boundaries at
will. Krishna and arjun had a 120 runs partnership in 14 overs.
Disaster struck in the form of a low full toss from their part time
bowler shashank where a good catch was taken. Arjun kept trying his
best till 8 wickets fell and got out as the 9th wicket. Ravi shankar
left the team with one batsman less and that could have made a
difference in a loss of 34 runs with 6.2 overs remaining on a fast
outfield. Arjun scored 75 and ran out of partners. Chandrodaya gave
some support along with Appu chacha. But the player of the day was
abhilash who scored a quick fire 52 and took crucial 4 wickets to
award a loss to Santa Clara-II.

Oh-nine - A guest post from Sridhar

my fine friends:

It's that time again - resolutions, wishes, dreams, wants, desires, to do lists, not to do lists - time to renew them all and perhaps for a few lucky ones, life goes on as usual.

As we enter the final year of oh-oh decade, the millennium bug seems so far away and yet, it seems like the last 9 years have made the world stand rather still in terms of any major improvements or lack there-of. In some ways, we probably slid back in time with a rash of violence and vengeance filled acts. Wars, oil prices, more terror, more people employed in the trade that we call "security" than every before.

Let us hope that we see some unexpected positive changes happen in oh-nine to help make this decade a memorable one.

It was a year, where my 4 year old daughter was confused how a Turkey can be a bird, yet a country. Can't blame her, I am still confused about the right adapter plug to take with me when I travel, after traveling for a good 15 years around the world. Strange, yet so alluring, so exciting to get on a plane and not knowing how the far away destination would sound, smell and look. As some would say the world is flat, yet the far end of the table has a different coat of varnish.

A year of Phelps, a year of tragedy in Mumbai, a year where most of the streets seem to develop potholes, none worse than the street named Wall, a year of defeats for the Aussies, a wonderful year for SCCC and oh yes, a year of Oh-bama welcoming Oh-nine from the White House.

A year gone, one that I would remember for the heavenly smiley (see attached) and the first time my daughter was able to draw a smiley, a year that had her spell her name for the first time.

and then I remember and remind you of my favorite quote:

"Nothing meaningful has ever been accomplished without irrational
exuberance".

Don't resist that sudden inner urge every once in a while, learn a new sport, take your family to a far away place, try and recapture at least one moment that made you feel like a million bucks.

Put things in perspective and let us not take things for granted. When you see, think of the blind, when you walk, think of the lame, when you have a choice to make, think of the many who do not get one basic meal - let us not waste and spend away our privileges and don't forget to celebrate every day (or maybe once a week) with at least one kind selfless gesture. The world can certainly do with a bunch of these.

Celebrate every moment with your family as if it were the last, for they are the ones who were there last year and will be there for you the next and the next and the next...

Celebrations do not have to wait a year.

Here's to 2009, and to good things for you and yours. Happy oh-nine!

Santa Clara Won the toss and started batting with Gaja and Krishna.
Krishna was removed by Rajiv in his very first over. SCCC-II lost
Shiva.V early as well. Dhruv got Gaja and SCCC-II in serious trouble
with score reading 14 for 3 in 8 overs. Dawood and Amit slowly took
the score to 30 in 12 overs. Amit got out off sudhakar. DAwood gets
out very next over after settling in for 12 against Chandra. Score
reads 30 for 5 in 13 overs. Sujesh and Ahmad batted wiht purpose and
stitched a very good 59 runs partnership for the 6th wicket. SCCC-II
89 for 5 in 28 overs. Another 12 overs to go and 5 wickets in hand
SCCC-II decided to attack a very disciplined sunnyvale-I attack. Ahmad
got out to shesha. Mahendran followed him by a superb caught and
bowled by Arun. S. Hamel Nayak looked to accelerate and got bowled to
a beauty from Rajiv. The score suddenly reads 109 for 8 in 34 overs.
In walks vijith the crisis man ever for santa clara. Sujesh and Vijith
had a 43 runs partnership in which 25 runs were scored in last 2
overs. Vijith got out in the 4th ball of last over. Jwalant remained
not out and sujesh ended the innings with a 66 Not out.

Lunch Was served with variety of choices since Chandrodaya had got
some food from home too.
Sunnyvale started their Innings thinking the target was easy but 154
runs in 40 overs isn't that easy. Eventhough the outfield was
lightning fast bowlers can still do well on that wicket. Ankur and
Shesha started the proceedings slowly. Ankur looked in good touch and
played soem good shots. Shesha was his usual self building the
innings. Sunnyvale-I were 42 for no loss in 14 overs. But if u don't
get big runs while chasing @ santa clara the middel overs are going to
be difficult with slower bowlers operating with a steady line and
length.
Ankur got out for 24 gettign LBW to sujesh. Shesha got out scoring 18
to vijith miscuing his shot to square leg where max took a very well
judged catch. Ayan came and started few bang bang shots. Sunnyvale
score read 67 for 3 in 22 overs. Run rate pressure was climbing and
SHiva.V removed ayan of the very first ball he bowled where ayan
couldn't clear mid wicket boundary. This was the turnign point and
from then on sunnyvale-I were playing lot of shots in the air. Arvind
batted around for a while not timing enough to push the score against
Shiva, Vijith and Sujesh. Sujesh got aravind bowled and then it was
just a formality to finish the game. Hamel was brought back into the
attack and he got Arun.S bowled. Govardhan walked in a hit a huge shot
to mid wicket where ahmad took a spectacular catch sliding at the
boundary. Suresh was bowled behidn by shiva. Shiva was decieving the
batsman with flight and turn and his mix up of good faster ones
skidding. Dhruv was run out in a mix up with Sudhakar. Rajeev and
chandra looked like they wanted to bat few overs. They both played
staright to stretch the game little bit but it was too much from them
to finish this game. they needed 69 runs in 8 overs with 1 wickeyt in
hand. Sunnyvale who had a strong team couldn't stop santa clara-II
from finishing the final game of the season with a good Win. Shiva
finished with 4 wickets for 10 runs given in his 5.2 overs. Vijith
Bowled with immaculate control and hamel have been unplayable all day.
Jwalant and sujesh supported other bowlers well with crucial spells.

SOX keep it close at Spartans

SOX lost a close game yet again playing against Spartans. Earlier in the season SOX lost to Spartans at home by a handful of runs, a performance repeated yet again by the team that, in the spirit of looking at the silver lining, seemed to have found its bowling strength against quality batting.

SOX started by winning a crucial toss. The pitch was wet and the grass on the football field end was squishy in places with a big puddle on one side. It took a couple of big buckets to help clear that to a certain degree. Rest was left for the hot sun which was promising a warm day even during the early hours of the morning.

Spartans started with Jigar and another batsman (Name?). Rajan and Karthik started for SOX and while Karthik wavered a little he pinned down the batsmen just enough for Rajan to take advantage on the other end. Rajan kept his line and length for the most part making batting, which was already a tough task due to the pitch being wet, no picnic. Jigar batted well for Spartans and continued to take advantage of select few balls that were offered on the leg. Hasan kept wickets for SOX and did a phenomenal job behind the stumps. SOX fielding was just below par with a couple of catches going down. Bowling was substantially better than previous games where minimal amount of extras were given. Spartans kept loosing their wickets and were not able to score at an accelerated rate at any point in the game except for a couple of overs in the end. Spartans ended up with 167 on the board at the end of the 25th over. Rajan, Shahab, Sam, and Karthik were among wickets.

SOX started with Hasan and Shahab. Hasan was his usual self but the pitch continued to bother the batsmen. The ball was sticking to the pitch for just a touch longer than it should have and while Hasan managed to be more careful in his approach, SOX were finding it difficult to score. Hasan played some beautiful strokes though that included a six and three boundaries. Shahab and Hasan also ran some quick singles and twos while they were on. Eventually, he mistimed a shot and was caught by the short mid off fielder after scoring 29 runs. Rajan joined Shahab and showed a good deal of intent to fight with his intelligent batting. Just before the drink's break, Shahab was stumped after scoring 23 runs and with the total at 83 runs, and SOX needing 85 runs more, the slide began. Karthik was not able to get going and was out on the first ball he faced. Rajan and Sam got together but before a partnership could develop, Rajan got out mistiming a shot. Jagat joined Sam where Sam took centerstage and carted Mahendra all around the ground in one over. He scored 22 runs in an over with 2 massive sixes and 2 fours alongwith a couple of runs between the wickets. But just as SOX started to breath easy, Jagat got out trying to flick the ball on the legside, loosing his stumps in the process. Sandeep joined Sam in the middle and for sometime was not able to adjust to the pitch. Runs dried up once again and that compelled Sam to take charge. He tried to run one too many of the risky singles and unfortunately was caught short of his crease. Satish joined Sandeep in the middle and immediately set about the task of setting things right. Sandeep, in the meanwhile, was called back, and Gajja joined Satish in the middle. Both the batsmen were in the process of threatning to take over the game however, Gajja was not able to contain his instint to drive on the up and was caught in the covers. Satish was then joined by Saurabh. SOX needed 24 in 3 overs followed by 16 in 2 overs. At that critical juncture, Satish was run out and it was all over for SOX. SOX eventually loosing to Spartans after a tough fight. SOX have two crucial games coming up in August and the last game of the season is in Sept. In order to ensure a place in the playoffs, SOX have to win 2 out of the three remaining games.

Santa Clara-II lost 2 early wickets to great bowling by Ganesh
removing Hassan. A and Krishna. Sujesh and Fareed had a 45 runs
partnership to take the score to 55 in 20 overs for 2 wickets. Fareed
and Amit valia had a small partnership. The big partnership of 76 runs
came between chandru and amit when they played aggressively. chandru
got out for a well made 26 runs. Shiva and Amit had another 35 runs
partnership. Amit valia played an amazing knock to take the score to
203 with the support of chandru, fareed, saad and shiva. Chandra and
Bilal kept things tight for stanford A. ganesh took early wickets and
abbas bowled well in the death. Bilal was unlucky not to get a wicket
but bowled really well. Abbas Jaffery is a good find and that kid
bowled with lot of pace.

Stanford-A were cruising @ 70 for 1 wicket @ 7th over chasign 204 .
Saeed scored 22 runs in 3 overs and got out. The score was 30 runs in
4 overs. Like usual spinners came on to bowl in the 9th over and the
game changed. Saeed and anwar were hitting sixes and made it look like
the groudn was small specially against the wind. They hit soem good
shots and weren't bad balls. Anwar was hitting shots @ will against
medium pacers and was unable to control it once the spinners were on.
Fareed cleaned up mushi, anwar and nishant. Ganesh was batting with a
hamstring injury and was unable to open up and santa clara-II
controlled the game from then on. They never looked to chase since
sikander, Nauman and Abbas were unable to score freely and pressure
got to them. Imran was unplayable on that wicket and middle order
struggled to have any momentum. Abbas looked comfortable but was out
played by a beauty from shiva and got stumped. Bilal and ganesh gave
some threat after Bilal playign soem good shots towards the end.
Sujesh supported from other end with a maiden on 45th over and run
rate climbed to more than 6 runs per over. Finally saad came back and
bowled few brilliant overs to finish the game @ 184. Shiva bowled
beautifully to take 3 wickets.

After such a great start santa clara-II snatched the game away from
stanford-A. Good game and beating a team with solid batting line-up
speaks volume of the performance as a team.Great game to be part of
and good win for Santa Clara-II

Excellent game and well deserved win for davis for the fight they
showed. Arun started with few good hits but jwalant cleaned up the top
order including shevar. Jay played sensibly and was keeping the score
board moving. Davis lost 5 wickets for 83 runs in 24 overs. Balbir
came in and chanced his arm against imran and hit few good shots and
the crucial partnership of 40 runs came between balbir and Anit who
held one end. Shehzad chipped in with few runs and they were all out
for 167 in 46 overs. Jwalant, Imran and sathya bowled well and picked
up wickets.

Santa Clara-II started the chase badly by poor shot selection and lost
4 wickets for 10 runs. This included the run out of Harsh who was
batting well by a direct hit from the super man RAY when batsman took
a start from non-striker end for a run. Dawood and sujesh had a 40
runs partnership and was looking on course to chase the score. dawood
got out to shevar who gave the break through with his off spinners
after doing his wicket keeping duty. In walks Amit the batsman in form
who have been scoring consistently for santa clara-II for the past 4
games. Amit and sujesh had a partnership of 30 runs and Aman got
sujesh out LBW. Jwalant and amit had a sweet little agressive 30 runs
partnership. This was looking good to seal the game with 12 overs and
60 runs on a fast outfield with 3 wickets in hand. jwalant got out LBW
and Sushant ran through the last 2 batsman to end up with 3 important
wickets to seal the game for Davis. Santa Clara -II got all out for
140 with 5.3 overs to spare and 27 runs required. Amit remained not
out @ 40 without any support.

All credit to davis boyz for fighting hard till the end and winning the game.

After winning the toss, on a hot day seas started the innings with Chandra and Vicky. Chandra and Harsh steadied the innings after Vicky was out caught behind. At the first drinks break seas were 48/1 in 15 overs. Chandra was his usual self, not missing any scoring opportunities while playing to the merit of the ball. Soon after the drinks break Chandra completed his 50 and spared no time in getting out. Malav joined Harsh and both batted beautifully cutting down risks, and running well between wickets, while not letting the heat get to them. At the second drinks break the score read 119/2. Both got out after the drinks break trying to push the scoring rate, and so did Dinesh. Govind and yours truly provided the late flourish to score 76 runs of the last 7 overs as seas secured all 5 batting points.

After the lunch break Seas opened the bowling with Dinesh and Govind. Govind was replaced by Satish after 1 over due to recurring trouble with bowling shoulder. Dinesh picked up the wicket of Deval, brilliantly caught by Chandra running backwards from point. Chandra followed the catch with a nice throw to catch the other opener short of his crease while trying to steal a quick single. Satish bowled with fire but with out luck. Govind returned to bowl one more over and picked up a wicket before a brilliant pick up and throw from short extra cover caught Nishant short of his crease who backed up too far at the non-striker's end. Nikul and Mangesh bowled few tidy overs to reduce spartan to 97/6 by the 20th over. When the seas were planning to wind up the Spartan innings, Jessie and Shailesh had other plans, as they kept plugging away at the asking rate , chancing their arm as needed in 82 run partnership for the 7th wicket. Although Jessie was superbly caught by Malav at short midwicket, Spartan were back in the chase with 60 more runs in the last 10 overs. More boundaries were scored before Spartan needed 17 runs in the last 3 overs with 3 wickets in hand. Nikul (43 rd over) , Dinesh (44th over) picked up a wicket each to turn the game around. In the last over bowled by Chandra, spartan needed 5 runs with 1 wicket in hand. The first 4 were dot balls, a single was scored of the 5th ball leaving spartan spartan with 4 runs on the last ball. Mahendra Patel took a big heave at the last ball only to see the timber disturbed.

The bowlers and fielders held their nerve in the last few overs to pull off a hard fought win.

Lost to

Santa Clara I: 77/1 in 12.3 Overs (Umesh 54 Nout out, shantanu 12 not out, Nand 1 wicket)

by 9 wickets.

Sandeep was the wrecker in chief. First 5 overs every over he picked up a wicket.4 batsman bowled and 3 LBWS says it all. Shantanu, Hasan Imam and Hamel bowled good spells around him to ensure that santa clara II did not get any partnership going. Sandeep was on a song and some balls were unplayable.

Umesh scored an attacking 54 nout out chasing down the 77 runs in 12.3 overs. Shantanu came and gave the boost required to chase it down fast. Nand after a big break was coming and bowling with fire where he beat the batsman number of times with his leg spin.

Good game to learn how to bowl with discipline and make a huge impact to the game.

This is the first time spartan have ever missed an umpiring assignment and one umpire showed up. So i will not take this as an intentional miss.

Thanks Gaja for showin up for the game with 45 mins notice in the morning. Raj Raman had to pull out last minute due to personal reasons

I guess this is the highest wickets taking by a bowler for santa clara in a league game.

I do remember puneet's 8 wicket haul against East Bay pajjis. but that was price cup or so.

Match Report Bees v/s central valley.(bees won by 26 runs)

Bees beat CVCC by 26 runs

Bees had an Awesome recovery from 35 for 4 in 15 overs.

Chandru and govind (23) had a good [partnership going

Chandru and raj raman had a small partnership going.

The best was chandru and Amit valia who played a scincillating innings out of the skin to score a brilliant 58 not out batting @ #9.

They had 66 runs partnership for 8th wicket.

chandru got out in the 46th over and batted out 40 overs from 6th over to score a captains innings (chandru have been leading bees since Marin game). Responsible fifty with some crisp shots .

Saad and Amit valia had a small partnership for 9th wicket and that took the score to 175 plus and Amit hit a 6 and 4 in the last over to give bees a competitive score.

CVCC were 73 in 10 overs for no loss and saad gave the first break through (vatandeep who was taking too many chances)

Dawood amazing stumping off saads bowling.

Govind was bolwing banana outswingers in the beginning but they got away with lot of shots and hit soem huge sixes and boundaries in the beginning to get a good start.

I got shahid who was hitting @ the other end.

Saad removed carmo first ball off a beauty which cut off the wicket and Raj took a brilliant catch @ gulley

They never had a partnership going other than prabhjoth who played beautifully and stayed not out @ one end.

I cleaned up satinder and shiva took care of both lefties rana and babby.

Bees played this game with 5 spinners and rich with slow bowling options.

Amit tunrned the game when they needed 56 in 14 overs.

Amazing ball to remove Sunil.

Shiva cleaned up sukhi with another caught and bowled ( a skier).

Equation 42 required in 10 overs with 3 wickets.

It came down to 7 overs 39 runs

5 overs 29 runs

finally run rate pressure with 2 wickets 4 overs 27 runs (almost 7 runs per over)

Shiva bowled beautifully again in his second spell from benton end flighting the ball.

Amit was given a break and Saad came back to clean up the sticks of the last 2 batsman and prabhjoth stranded @ one end.

46. 4 overs game overs with cvcc losing by 26 runs.

Saad bowled like a champion on our wicket with good pace and hitting the seam from home stead end.

Wicket was dry and nothing for bowlers in the afternoon specially medium pacers unless u can hit the deck.

Outfield was still fast other than few areas where the ball stops.

All in all good cricket and good fight to win this game.

chandru mixed the bowling well and everyone responded well.

Shiva is a great leggie in the making (poor guy got a bad LBW decision while batting)

Amit valia and Shiva bowled great spells of leg spin and supported saad, govind, guru and myself to make it all happen

Raj Raman was unfortunate to discontinue bowling after a one run over. Amit gave the break through desperately needed and continued a spell of 7 overs.

SOX loose yet again in a low scoring game

The official NCCA ground on Chromite Ave in Santa Clara was the venue for the game b/w SOX and Mammoths. Mammoths lost to SOX playing at home last month and seemed to have showed up to play with almost the exact same team.

SOX started the day well with Jagat winning the toss. He promptly decided to bat. The pitch was wet because of sprinkler activity the night before and with Mammoth's slow bowling line up batting was not going to be an easy task.

Prasad and Shahab opened for SOX facing Jai and Ashok who started with wides gifted to SOX total so much so that the scorer had to get inventive in keeping track of all of them for these two bowlers on the score sheet.

All in all, in the first three overs, there were atleast 12 wides bowled. On the flip side, it was making batting none the easier simply because a couple of legal deliveries among lots of illegal ones that the batsman could only watch go by were that much more difficult to negotiate. On top of that there were wet patches on both ends which were quite large and were making the ball stick to the pitch just enough to create problems for the batsman. Prasad succumbed to just such a problem when he played too early to a ball that rose from a good length spot to take the shoulder edge of the bat and balloon onto square leg. Shahab was joined by Nipun in the middle who was intent on accelerating the score. He was unable to help much unfortunately, because of a brilliant catch taken by Prajwal at covers when he drove uppishly. Rajan then joined Shahab and started building a partnership with some energetic running in the middle. He also took advantage of some loose deliveries to play some calculated shots in the outfield where the ball was not travelling as easily. He hit a four and a six before getting caught at mid-on when he mis-timed his shot and ended up getting the top of his willow on the ball as opposed to the sweet spot. SOX were motoring along nicely at 60 runs in 8 overs however, wickets falling quickly were creating a few problems. Sam at that point joined Shahab and while the initial discussion was around not loosing another wicket, the next bowler Vinay appeared too tempting for Shahab simply becuse unlike other bowlers he was bowling at a somewhat good pace and was bowling short as well. Shahab hit him for a four and charged him in the same over to hit him over the top but ended up playing a slash that went high and was caught by Jai at Deep third man. Sam was then joined by Vaibhav who started very confidently playing with his full face of the bat to most deliveries bowled at him. Sam had got his eye in by that time and hit some powerful shots over mid-off to see one of them cross the boundary. He also ran with a lot of energy and put a good deal of pressure on the field. He was ably assisted by the new man Vaibhav who did not get the opportunity to settle down when Ashok came back and cleaned him up. Sam was then joined by Bhava however, Sam in trying to play another lofted shot mis-calculated and gave a skier to an eager fielder. Zill-e-Rehman debuted for Santa Clara in this game and was instrumental in holding one end for SOX. Bhava got out playing a rash shot as well when he got caught in gully and Jagat too was back in the hut cheaply after getting caught brilliantly by deep mid-on almost alongside the cone.Zille who goes by Zill then partnered with Anshuman and while they tried to accumulate as many runs as possible for SOX, the middle order collapse and failure of the top order to get starts or converting their starts to big scores inhibited the target for Mammoths which turned out to be 114 runs. Zill was also caught out and Prashant did not get a chance to bat as Anhsuman got out at the next ball.

Some excellent bowling from Mammoths especially from Hitesh, Prajwal and Ashok aside from the wides but kudos to the whole team for some amazing catching in the field. Not a single catch was put down and at the end of the day that was the critical difference.

SOX started with great flourish when they started picking wickets right away. Prashanth and Rajan picked wickets pretty quickly and before Prajwal got onto the crease Mammoths did not seem to have their batting strategy together. The only blot on the SOX bowling were the extras that were bowled in the first few overs that really helped Mammoths make up for not being able to make those runs off the bat. Sam, Vaibhav, Anshuman and Jagat, were the other bowlers however, Prajwal stood all tests and was able to shepherd Mammoths to victory. He was crucially dropped on Jagat's bowling which may have turned the game however apart from that he played mostly a chanceless inning and deserved the MoM if there was one. Vaibhav bowled very well along with Sam who bowled with a lot of fire. Jagat was his masterful self for the most part however, the pitch did not provide him with the bounce that he can be so effective with. Even so, he created the critical chance bowling to Prajwal that was put down in the field. Vaibhav, Sam, Rajan, Prashant shared the wickets. Anshuman bowled well without much reward.

In the end, batting did not deliver a defendable score and bowling was unable to muster the needed discipline to contain the opponent. Shahab, Sam, Rajan were among those who got starts and scored 20 odds but were not able to convert them into big scores. Vaibhav, Nipun, Prasad were unable to get the starts that they needed and got out cheaply. Fielding can use some more practice around supporting their bowlers better and taking those early starts with the bowler to make up the difference that can be between taking a catch or dropping one. Prasad was very efficient behind the stumps for SOX and kept well especially during the interval when SOX bowling was wayward and extras were plenty. There were a couple of questionable umpiring decisions from the leg umpire however SOX did not dwell on them and moved on pretty quickly.

Indus II: 78 a.o in 29 overs (Mayank 20*, Govind 9-4-8-4, Mangesh 5-0-8-3, Saurabh 2/20, Extras 16)

Seas Innings : After winning the toss, seas opened with Chandra S and Govind. After a good start seas were reduced to 72/4 by 15 overs. Chandra (15), Govind (23), Harsh (9) had good starts but could not carry on play bigger innings. After the drinks break Rohit and Ashish continued to repair the damage before Ashish was bowled of an inside edge for 13. Dinesh and Rohit continued to steady the innings before 2 wickets in a single over of Rohit and yours truly changed the tempo of the game. More wickets fell in subsequent overs due to couple of dubious umpiring decisions as the Seas lost the last 5 wickets for the addition for 15 runs. Overall the Seas batting fell through in this game, due to injudicious shot selection, good bowling and dubious umpiring decisions.

Indus II Innings : After the lunch break, seas recouped and entered the field with strong resolve to bowl and field with high intensity. What followed was an exceptional out swing bowling from Govind who opened the bowling with Dinesh. Every batsman was clueless and struggled to put bat to ball as seas tightened up things. Govind bowled 9 overs on the trot and his bowling analysis read an amazing 9-4-8-4. I have not seen this kind of bowling performance from an SCCCian in a long time. One batsman was caught behind, 2 were squared up and lost there middle stump, one more batsman tried to hit his way out of trouble only to be superbly caught by Saurabh at point. Dinesh was unlucky not get any wicket as he could not hold on to a caught and bowled chance. Mangesh replaced Govind and picked up 3 wickets ( caught by Harsh at slip, skier caught by Rohit and an LBW ) as there was no let up in the pressure for Indus II. Nikul bowled his left arm seamers coming around the wicket kept it tight at one end. His 7 overs cost 19 runs and picked up a crucial wicket, caught by Puneet Konghot at covers. Indus II were reduced to 53/9 before the last batsman chanced his arm to add 25 more runs. Saurabh picked up the last 2 (LBW and bowled) wickets bowling good stump to stump line.

Although the batting came a cropper, it is heartening to see the bowling and fielding respond brilliantly to defend such a low total, which was definitely 100 runs short.

Match Report:
Krishna's 113 Not out(97 balls) was the best paced innings I have seen @ santa Clara ground in a long time.
First fifty came with 68 balls and he was dropped twice. Next 50 came off 22 balls with 5 sixes and then 7 balls for 13 runs.
Cougars scored 89 runs in last 10 overs. (9th wicket unbeaten partnership of 89 runs as well between fahad and krishna. He ran whole bunch of twos and singles in his innings. Sunny gave the required start by scoring 42 runs of 40 balls. Cougars were 140 odd for 7 wickets and manjit and krishna had a very good partnership in which Manjit did chunk of scoring. Sujesh, Imran and krishna bowled well for santa clara -II. Medium Pacers finsihed badly on a day where krishna was timing every ball. All the sixes he hit were sweetly timed and the ones he hit against the wind was a treat to watch. We paid the price for droppign him twice and None other batsman were looking comfortable @ the wicket. truely an amazing knock to provide an awesoem platform for cougars 263/8 in 50 overs.

Santa Clara Ii started badly by losing Hassan.A and chandru early. Krishna and Sujesh had a 45 runs partnership for 3 rd wicket. Ahmad and Imran had a 35 runs partnership for the 8th wicket. Otherwise Santa Clara-Ii after lsoing early wickets and sunny bowling with fire didn't look like chasing this big score. New player Doane played with lot of heart. He Bowled a good spell too. Akash and Manjit gave a good start to cougars with the new ball.

Cougars outplayed Santa Clara-II and Krishna's innings defined the result.

There are days where you are an opponent captain but could only admire certain things. Krishna's innings was one of them in my career. Every shot he hit was cleared with ease on a long boundary.

We will Boucne back by correctign our errors. We will come back strong. Every team member wills pent some tiem to fix their errors and bring back the glory we used to cherish before.

No worries guys it was just a bad day where someone outperformed us. Giev credit where it's due.

After Spartan won the toss, seas opened the bowling with Dinesh and Karthik. Dinesh started well by cleaning up Nandu and followed up with the wicket of Jigar, nicely caught by Harsh S at first slip. Satish replaced Karthik and bowled a forgetful 15 ball over. With the help of extras spartan were 58/3 after 15 overs. After the drinks break Gundan and Mangesh bowled tight overs in tandem and Gundan picked up 4 wickets in the process. Mangesh was unlucky not to get any wickets, but he effected a good run out of his bowling to get rid of Ravi S. Satish come back for the second spell and bowled with lot of zip to clean up the tail and pick up 3 wickets. Seas bowled more wides which helped the spartan score of 107. Harsh finished with 4 sharp catches at 1st slip.

After a nice lunch seas started the chase badly loosing both openers Chandra and Vicky by the 4th over. Harsh and Gundan played with lot of application and commitment in the midst of some tinght bowlig, to take the seas to 30/2 by the 15th over. After the drinks break Rajesh was run out pushing for a 3rd run of an overthrow. Malav joined Harsh and both batted sensibly, scoring of bad balls while defending the good ones and took the seas home with out further loss of wickets. Harsh finished off with couple of nicely times 6s.

Seas hope to continue the momentum forward, however bowlers need to put more work to contain wides.

Winning Streak comes to an end - SOX loose against Tracy United by 3 runs

SOX and Tracy enjoyed an exciting game with a controversial ending involving an umpiring gaffe.

SOX lost the toss and were asked to bowl. Tracy's ground had incredibly short boundaries compared to some of the other grounds in the league however, grass in a few patches here and there was fairly thick so shots along the ground were not as effective in getting runs. Everyone expected it to be a high scoring game and not one to be dominated by the bowlers. Apparently Rajan begged to differ and started a top order slide for Tracy, the likes of which have rarely been seen. Rajan ended up with 4 wickets giving away only a handful of runs while Nikhul from the other end got into the act as well reducing Tracy to 55 for 6 at break. Rajan bowled with a lot of control and aggression and got the important wicket of Tarun. He also bowled out most of his victims with sharp incutters that were very accurate, one of which notably hit the top of the off-stump. Extras were well in control and SOX were looking to dominate the game. After the break, the picture changed just a bit when numbers 7 and 8 from Tracy hung around longer than they should have chipping runs into their total. Karthik and Anshuman bowled very well to contain the batsmen and after some struggle, SOX started the slide yet again where Tracy lost two quick wickets in the same over. Shahab and Puneet bowled the last few overs giving away minimal amount of runs and accounting for the rest of the batting line up. Harsh probably took the finest catch getting Raj's wicket off of Puneet's bowling and got a stumping resulting in a wicket for Shahab as well. Rajan contributed in fielding as well with an amazing catch off of a flat drive at the boundary. There were some dropped catches that elongated the Tracy innning (three in all) but Tracy was eventually all out for 125 runs.

SOX started out very well with Harsh and Prasad taking advantage of some loose bowling in the beginning. Harsh particularly looked good and was making steady progress when he got out with the total at 47 which turned out to be the best partnership from SOX for the day. He was followed by Nipun and when Prasad fell after a good knock and only due to a misunderstanding between him and Nipun, Rajan walked in and immediately started to dominate the proceedings. Nipun departed after giving a dolly of a catch to short mid-on. Karthik walked in and partnered with Rajan to push the score into the 90s. Rajan, after belting a boundary, tried his luck again and was caught out very close to the boundary. In walked Jagat at a point when SOX needed less than 35 runs and was not able to get going against Raj. He was out LBW on a ball that struck him curiously high above his knee roll. Shahab walked in to partner Karthik who at that point was trying to play along the ground without much success in getting runs. Karthik got out after his attempt at trying to go over the top of the infield resulted in a mishit. Puneet and Shahab got together on the pitch but the frustration of not being able to score with along the ground shots got to Shahab as well and he skied a short ball in an attempt to pull it to mid-wicket boundary. Anshuman walked in and ably assisted Puneet who was making the last stand against a charged Tracy line up. At the time, SOX needed about 24 runs in 4 overs however, with only one wicket in hand, Puneet was trying to help the situation without taking too many risks. Anshuman and Puneet pulled the game within a whisker of an advantage for SOX when they needed 6 runs in 6 balls. The equation then became 3 runs in 4 balls and that is when disaster struck. A ball that took the bottom edge of Anshuman's bat and appeared to have missed his pad completely went behind the wicket keeper. The bowler was the only one who appealed and kept appealing for an LBW. Everyone saw the umpire raise his hand registering 2 bye runs with the scorer. The scorer and half the SOX team acknowledged him and next we look up to see Anshuman walking back. Apparently the umpire had decided after giving the bye runs that it was not bye after all and that Anshuman was out LBW. Umpire later clarified that he made a mistake in thinking that it was a bye and re-considered his decision to reverse it. SOX still had 2 more balls to play to get the three runs however, it was not to be and SOX lost the game by a close margin of three runs.

The day did belong to the bowlers of both sides. From Tracy, everybody bowled very well and controlled the extras. Same from SOX as well. A little more application on the batting side of things could have seen more scoring from both the teams. However, that does not take away from an intense match up. SOX are 4-3 after playing seven games in total. The schedule shows SOX as being off for the next few weeks coming back on Jul 13th weekend against Mammoths in an away game.

This is hopefully a minor blip on the graph and SOX hope to continue the upward climb in the Team table.

Seas beat Bay Area I yesterday, here are brief details of the game.

The game was played in good spirits with excellent umpiring from Shiva
and Happy.

Seas posted a good score, highest on the home ground this year, due on
the platform set by openers Govind and Chandra. Seas were 99/1 at the
end of 15 overs. Both the openers played positively punishing bad
balls as they were offered in plenty by Bay Area I. Chandra and Harsh
got out soon after the first drinks break. Malav and Rohit ensured
that the momentum was not lost and took the score to 178/4 by the 30th over. Bay Area
tightened up the bowling in the last session as the Seas looked to
push for a big score. Rohit eventually got out in the 38th over for a
well made 48, missing 2nd consecutive half century in as many games.
Dinesh and Kartik ensured that the Seas played all 45 overs with out loosing
scoring opportunities.

Bay Area started badly loosing a wicket in the very first over of the
innings. Dinesh and Kartik, the opening bowlers for Seas, bowled with
excellent control to 46/3 by the 15 over. After the drinks break,
Gundan weaved his magic and picked up 3 wickets, leaving various
batsman clueless several times during his spell. Mangesh bowled well
from the other end to pick up 2 wickets. Govind tried his golden arm
for the first time for SCCC and picked up 2 wickets in the only over
he bowled.

Excellent win for Seas and hopefully the momentum will be carried
forward to the next game against Spartan.

Match Report - SOX in a Blowout

This past Saturday SOX played against Mammoths at Home in what turned out to be a very exciting and gratifying contest for the Home team. SOX won the toss and deciding to bat first sent in Prasad and Harsh. While Harsh was looking good and scoring at a consistent rate, Prasad was struggling due to an injury he picked up while practicing the day before. He bravely faced up to the bowling and the new ball with the nagging injury but was not able to score as steadily. In trying to flick a ball past fine leg, he missed the line completely and lost his leg stump. Heston joined Harsh in the middle and the left-right combination started to make things difficult for Mammoths who seemed to be struggling with their bowling specially giving away extras at a very quick and consistent pace. Harsh was out LBW and he was followed by the player-of-the-day Rajan. Rajan played a very steady hand with Heston helping him with quick singles on the pitch. At break (End of 13th over), SOX had blasted more than a hundred runs with Rajan looking extremely well settled. During the break everyone encouraged Rajan to think about playing out the entire 25 overs. It turned out that Rajan did exactly that. He formed partnerships with Heston, Jagat, Gaja and Sam, each in excess of 30 runs. He hit three consecutive sixes, two of them hanging in the air for a long time before landing outside a long boundary. Rajan registered his 100, first for the SOX season, in the 24th over. His 100 came in 60 balls faced with 4 sixes and 9 fours. He got an elongated ovation and even the Mammoth field enthusiastically joined in congratulating him on his day. From Mammoths, all the bowlers gave away lots of wides and struggled with their line. Prajwal stood out with his bowling.

SOX also smashed their earlier highest score record of 222 and posted 223 for the loss of six at the end of 25 overs.

The match looked out of Mammoth's hands as they had resigned looks on their faces. They started poorly against Rajan and Prashanth who were accurate and quick. Some very sharp bowling saw very little given away in extras. SOX showed amazing agility in the field with 2 run outs off of direct hits. Heston took a blinder at Cover-Point region and Mammoths were never able to make a serious attempt at the target. They fought as best they could since they were also playing with only 10 players however, the total, the spirited SOX performance and a long day (made longer because of the extras SOX were able to pick up while batting) took a high toll. Puneet made an amazing comeback after a poor first over to pick up wickets especially Prajwal's critical wicket who had started to pick up runs against the SOX bowlers.

Rajan, Prashanth, Puneet, Jagat, Sam and Shahab bowled well to contain Mammoths in the end and SOX were able to carry the day without the theatrics for once.

SOX are now 4-2 after 6 games. We have a week off with some umpiring assignments coming up and the next assignment is in Tracy against Tracy United on Jun 22nd.

Match Report:
Cougars started off with an early runout of Saami to only bring Sunny and Majid together for a whirlwind partnership and were always cruising at around 6 runs and over. Sunny contributed 63 blazing runs while Majid played yet another invaluable and very solid knock to help put Cougars for a launching platform for the last 20 overs. While the familiar middle order debacle continues but finally Akash and Mon2 played couple of ideal knocks in the middle to set an example of what needs to be done after getting good starts. Mon2 in particular was quite brilliant scoring his maiden 50 of the season while Akash stepped out of his love for the teens.. well u know what i mean! One thing of note was the lack of running between wickets from Cougars. Cougars easily gave up 20 - 30 odd runs in singles and doubles that should have been converted and the person who suffered unfairly was Majid being stuck on 98* even though he throughly deserved a hundred for his brilliant back to back effort. Shirish for SCII picked up 4 crucial wickets to help reduce the damage when Cougars were threatening to post past that illusive 300 run mark.

Santa Clara run chase went haywire from start as Hasan looked to carry on from his 100 last game but was caught off Manjit immediately after drilling him for a couple of 4's. Akash struck from the other end and SCII were in trouble early only to be briefly rescued by Dawood and Govind putting up a good partnership. Dawood played well for his 21 and Govind got 25 before the procession of batsmen marching in and out started. Sujesh put up a lone fight at the end with a really well played 51* but unfortunately did not have the kind of support needed to chase down a big total of 278 and Santa Clara was eventually skittled for 160 runs in 39 overs. For Cougars Akash and Asim picked up two wickets each and rest of the bowlers picked up 1 wicket each. Cougars bowlers however conceded plenty of extras and 26 extras was the other big contributor for the SC2 totals. Another aspect cougars certainly needs to improve upon along with extras is the catching. With close to 6 catches being dropped this could have easily for the other way.

SOX make it exciting yet again!!!

SOX had a very cold day to start with and they were happy to bat first after the Berkley captain won the toss and decided to field first, hoping they won't have to field in cold and wet conditions towards the middle of the day.

A very inspired Harsh opened with a cautious Prasad. SOX did not loose their first wicket until the end of the 11th over when Prasad who scored 17 valuable runs while blunting the new ball was bowled out by Anish. Harsh continued to play some lovely strokes including the very elegant leg glance that fetched him multiple boundaries. He missed his half century by two runs when he was caught out. Unfortunately, Rajan was not able to contribute to the total much and credit goes entirely to the Berkley bowler (captain), who showed amazing reflexes to throw down the stumps after collecting a sharp straight drive from Rajan and seeing Rajan on the front foot and outside the line.

Sam played a helpful hand with Vikram at the time to steady the innings and to ensure that SOX do not loose too many wickets and play the entire set of 25 overs. SOX scored 152 in their inning at the loss of six or seven wickets.

From Berkley, Anish, Athar and Sid bowled very well. The fielding was patchy with a couple of dropped chances that could have turned the game.

SOX started confidently with Rajan and Chandru bowling their entire quota of 5 overs each and reducing Berkley to 39 for 4. Chandru started the slide with a sharp catch to the slips which was taken by Shahab. He continued with a catch in second slips to Gajja who handled it very well. Chandru also got a batsman run out with help from Sam in the same over. Berkley then lost another wicket to Rajan who got through Sid's defenses to get the middle stump. Berkley were all but out of the game at 48 for 7 when Sam picked up another wicket with Chandru taking a blinder at mid-wicket, however, SOX started to feel a bit more relaxed at that time and a couple of dropped chances saw Anish taking the game away. The equation at the end of 20 overs was Berkley at 102 for 8 with Anish playing the lone hand in everything scored after the grand total of 50 runs.

Vaibhav and Shahab bowled very well in the end to contain the batsmen and finished the quota of Berkley overs with them coming short by 10 runs in the end. Gajja contributed with his over as well however, he was unlucky to miss out on wickets when Jagat dropped a catch at deep square leg off his bowling. Jagat, unfortunately, was a victim of the same when he bowled his three overs with a chance going down once in every over.

In the end, Rajan and Chandru stood out for their efforts. Harsh stood out for his batting and his valiant effort behind the stumps.

A very entertaining game that goes to show that SOX need to ensure that they stay on top of the game once they get there otherwise better teams will take advantage and stage improbable comebacks. United Lost malhi early but Harry was playing lone hand and played some excellent shots on the off side. Ahmad and sathya picked up early wickets and at one point united where 63 for 3 wicketsin 15 overs. But tight bowling from sujesh and srinivas restrcited united in the middle overs to 83 in 25 overs followed by an amazing spell of leg spin by aditya thyagarajan and Imran. They got all out for 120 runs. Sonu was the last batsman out trying to accelerate for a a well made 19 runs. United team tried but couldn't beat the field on a nicely mowed ground.

Santa Clara-II started their innings with hassan amin and krishna. they put on 24 runs before hassan amin got bowled to a good ball by Sonu. Chandru walks and keep the score board moving and had another 30 runs partnership with krishna. United bowled tight and tried hard but 120 were too less to defend. krishna got out for a well amde 23 runs to a soft dismissal getting a leading edge of steve's bowling. In walks Aditya the coolest bastman u can find in california. he milked the bowling initially and played some superb drives along the ground to make the game one-sided. Aditya and chandru had a 40 runs partenrship before chandru got to a caught and bowled by Ajay for 24 runs. Chandrodaya joined aditya and ensured no body else batted on a day where santa clara-II did everything right. Aditya finished the game like usual in style by scoring 38 not out and chandrodaya remained not out scoring 10 runs.

Execellent umpiring by Sundaram and shashi. A.S from stanford-A-II. very impressed with their judgement and consistency. A job very well done.

The game as usual was played in great spirits.

SOX Win - Report

Tracy and SOX got in a hot contest on a warm Saturday at SCCC ground. Tracy won the toss and decided to set a target for SCCC. They started well but did not push for runs from the beginning. One of the openers (Unknown) was batting with a fairly straight bat while the other as part of a plan was trying to go after Hamel and Prashant. Hamel drew first blood with a catch in the first slip to Shahab. He eventually ended up with 4 wickets, two of which were on consecutive deliveries. Prashant and then Rajan supported him very well. One of Rajan's wicket was a perfect line and length delivery with a little extra zip so much so that it only took a single bail off when it hit the stumps. Sam got a wicket as well when Shahab took a skier at long on while keeping very tight control on the proceedings.
Anshuman was rewarded for his hard work with a wicket as well when he bowled out a batsman who was starting to look dangerous. Tracy scored their 143 runs on the backs of Harry (53) and Shahid (33). Jagat and Prashant did well to control the scoring in their stints.

SOX started with Prasad and Shahab however, the partnership did not last long when Shahab nicked one to the keeper in the third over. After another dismissal, the slide in the order was halted by Rajan who partnered with Sam to carry the team with a marvellous 50. Sam supported him throughout with some amazing along-the-ground strokes of his own that made their way to the boundary. Tracy missed a couple of chances in dropped catches but for the most part they grabbed everything that came their way While Rajan and Sam solidified and got SOX close to the victory, things started to seem to slip again when both got out in quick succession. In a rush to finish things off, the batsmen that followed gifted their wickets away and in the end SOX were down to the last two wickets with only three runs needed in the last over. Hamel and Anshuman kept their nerves about them and managed to make the final push together. SOX finished the game with three balls to spare.

Manish, Kuldeep and Harry were among wickets for Tracy.

SOX will be in action again at Home on the 31st of May.

SCCC III : 132/6 in 24 overs ( Ashish 24, Chandra S 40* (29 balls), Ravi V 23*, Masi 3/38)

Match report :

Seas started the day with minor disruption as Govind was delayed and Satish had to drive back to SCCC home ground to hand over the rest room key which inadvertently ended up in his kit bag. Nisarg accepted to be 12th man for this game and SCCC had no issues fielding 11 right from the start of game after Indus choose to bat. The umpires were delayed as well and the match started at around 10:25 AM. Dinesh and Mohit opened the bowling for the seas. Mohit got the first breakthrough with a caught and bowled dismissal of one of the Indus openers. Seas bowled a few wides and Indus hit a few streaky boundaries to take the score to 53/1 at 15 overs. After the drinks break Masi and Rakesh from Indus continued to bat with caution punishing bad balls and defending the good ones. By the 23rd over Indus were 91/1. At this stage Satish was introduced in to the attack and the situation dramatically turned around in the favour of Seas. Satish had the Rakesh caught behind, and followed it with a fast inswinger to uproot Masi's middle stump. In the subsequent overs, two more wickets fell to scorching yorkers, one resulted in a LBW and the other knocked the middle stump over. At the other end Gundan bowled a tight line and picked up three wickets, including the important one of Praveen K, caught behind. Dinesh picked up the last wicket with the first ball of his second spell and the Indus innings folded at 129 as they lost 9 wickets for the addition of 38 runs.

After a good lunch from swagat Seas began the chase by loosing Dinesh in the second over, LBW to Masi. Govind continued his good form by hitting 3 consecutive boundaries before knicking one to the first slip to leave the seas to 29/2 in 5 overs. Ashish started well, severly punishing bad balls as the seas were cruising nicely at 53/2 by the end of 8 eight overs and against the run of play Ashish got run out pushing for a non existent single. Three more wickets followed as Vicky was caught at 1st slip, Rohit played on while trying to leave the ball and Harsh given out LBW. The flurry of wickets reduced the seas to 66/6 by the 15th over. After the drinks break seas resumed batting with Chandra and yours truly. Chandra changed the tempo of the game by scoring quick boundaries (intially of bad balls and subsequently even good balls weren't spared) as seas chased the score with out further loss of wickets.

Finally a satisfying win, but the issue of loosing to many wickets in the first 15 overs needs to be resolved. Many thanks to Nisarg for helping out as 12th man for this game.

Bees lost the toss. tried soem luck through chandru and he lost the toss as well.

Davis elected to bat and started with an unusual opener of ray sahdeo the baseball player and balbir.

Ray connected 2 balls of the first over outside the fence for 2 big sixes.

He got out same over to guru's bowling plump infront.

Davis kept losing wickets and they were 80 for 4 wickets durign first break.

Shevar stuck in and played a patient knock with some lusty blows to score 40 runs.

Nirav played with tail and showed us how someone can score runs with tail .

He patiently waited since we bowled 46 extras which pretty much gave them the runs they needed.

Satish started badly but came back and bowled a brilliant second spell of 6 overs for 15 runs.

He was bowlign fast and hitting the spot. Imran had a off day by not getting any wickets.

We pulled the game bakc nicely and got them all out for 209.

Ritesh kadu was electric behidn stumps and plucked 2 great catches behind.

Good lunch served. Job well done in the first session for the poor start and wides.

Well mowed fast outfield and 210 should be an easy target.

Ritesh started well with 2 boundaries but Dan theb tricky man decievd him with pace and got inside edge bowled.

Followed by hassan inside edge bowled. Chandru walks in and played a wild shot to counter attack and fell to jay.

krishna was settlign in nicely. Chandrodaya walks in and gets bowled isndie egde to jay. We are in deep trouble.

Kundam walks in and played soem beautiful shots to saleem and jay. krishna was again decieved by dan and he played a flick straight to square leg fielder.

5 wickets down for 50 runs. Sujesh walks in and played an atrocious shot which no one can dream off. first ball across the line and got bowled to saleem.

Ahmad hung aroudn for a while with discomfort. Ahamd bowled by saleem. we are 7 wickets down for some 80 runs. Inwalks satish. he looked very comfortable out there.

he played a patient knock and scored aroudn 16 runs and got otu caught @ gulley. Imran and sathya played for a while to ensure we got the secodn battign point when we reached 100. poor display of batting costed us the second game after a good start to the season.

Bees will come back strongly and can expect better performance in the future games.

Match details :

SCCC Innings : Under wet and overcast conditions seas choose to bat and opened with Govind and Dinesh. Both the openers started positively, showing the intent to take on the bowlers and added 42 runs in 7 overs before Dinesh got out trying to play a big shot. Govind at the other end was his usual self playing to the merit of the ball without ever missing out an opportunity to score runs. He was well supported by Ashish. At the end of 15 overs the score read 59/1. In the second session Harsh and Govind built a good partnership, scoring consistently with aggresive running between the wickets. At the end of 30 overs the score read 134/3. After the second drinks break Govind and Harsh upped the scoring rate and fell quickly in the process. Finally a magnificent chanceless innings from Govind came to end when he was caught at short extra cover. Govind was unlucky to miss out on a well deserved century by 5 runs, his shots all around the wicket were pleasing to watch. Rajesh R (Gunda) got bowled for a golden duck as the Seas were reduced to 158/6 in 35 overs. Rohit and yours truly kept the score board moving and both of them fell in quick succession when a score of 230 was very much possible. Chandra S (Chandu), Mohit and Mangesh put their best efforts to get the 5th batting point. Seas were finally bowled out for 237 in 44 overs.

Standford II Innings :

Chasing 237 , especially on an unmowed field was a tough ask and stanford had disastrous start by losing 2 wickets in the first over. Arif, who backed up too far was the first one to go, and was run out by Gunda. Initially Gunda tried to take on the batsman by running towards the bowlers end from squre leg and later wisely decided to throw the ball at the bowlers end and Govind did the rest. Mohit bowled well in patches to pick up 2 wickets. Dinesh at the other end bowled a tight spell and was unlucky not to get a wicket. Stanford lost wickets at regular intervels with only Tushara scoring some runs by chancing his arm. A flurry of dropped catches delayed the inevitable, but stanford II eventually got all out for 92 in 30 overs. Chandu picket up 1 wicket and bowled tidy 6 overs. Gunda created lot of chances and picked up 2 wickets. Mangesh bowled 3 good overs to pick up 2 wickets as well.

Overall a very good win for seas. The second consecutive win made possible by very good batting.

Aces result preview..

Aces lost to CV by 4 wickets. Aces scored 228 run in super fast outfield, but CV played well to chase it off. Gagandeep played hell of an innings to set a win for them comfortably, he hit some 8/10 towering sixes, everything coming from middle of the bat.

CV has added some good talent this year and is certainly a lot different than any of the CV teams we played before. Details to follow.

Match Report:
Santa Clara- II got a good start after losing hassan early. Chandru and dawood took the score to 80/1 in 14 overs and we suddenly got to 96 for 4 wickets in 18 overs. Krishna and sujesh had a good partership which took the score to 150 plus. krishna played a beautiful innings of 44 eventhough he was having fever. Sujesh got out @ the score of 165 in 43 overs and the we got all out for 174. Bilal bowled a very controlled spell. Saeed gave too many extras in the first spell but he bowled the second spell with fire and cleaned up santa clara-II lower order. Anwar and Sikander gave nothign away giving less than 2 runs per over.

Stanford-A-I in trouble losing 4 early wickets for less than 33 runs in 15 overs. Nauman and Ganesh played together for a while unable to score due to tight bowling. Ganesh took few chances and played some good shots to keep the score board mooving. Nauman got out to a beauty by srinivas kundam and a good catch from dawood behind the wicket put them in more trouble. In walks Abbas who played a knock out of his skin. He took all the time in the world to settle down and made use of the 50 overs to wait and play. Ganesh and Abbas took the score from 50 to 150 runs. Ganesh got out scoring 53(caught behind and stumped) of sathya's bowling when standford-A required like 26 runs in 5 overs. Abbas ensured the victory is reached without any more risks. It came down to 6 runs of 2 overs with 3 wickets in hand. Game was over in 49th over. Sathya Maturi, jwalant Ahir and srinivas kundam bowled really well.

Overall a good game and Man of the Match ABBAS. truley amazing knock and i haven't seen one from him like this. Chanceless innings and accelerated well in the end.

Satnford-A played better cricket and deserved the win for the allround effort.

Umpires where keeping track of time and made sure the game was played on time.

Match Reports and Official Communication Publishing

Captains, Vice-Captains, Execs and Other Match Report Writers,

As part of the communication standardization within the SCCC club, we are trying to move to Blogs as much as possible. However, at the same time, we understand, most of us still feel more comfortable composing emails vs. logging on to a new tool. Therefore, we have setup a configuration that will allow an official blog entry through a simple email.

How does this work?

Whenever you have a match report or an official communication (i.e. match report, grounds day, picnic), just add bogus-please-see-email-for-official-id@santaclaracc.org in addition to members id and that is about it! Please make sure you only do that for the communication that you will be willing to share with outside world through Blog. This email has done so and it will automatically publish on our SCCC blog and then subsequently to the website (I will edit it to take out the email id out of it to avoid spam). No content management, no manual step or process. All it needs is to you take responsibility to add the publishing user id (in addition to the members id) for all official match reports and non-confidential SCCC-related official announcements.

Lastly, we request you to start using members at santaclaracc dot org as the alias for all members vs. yahoo groups. This will help us in branding and move to different services as transition our IT systems.

Everyone will be able to subscribe to them and for instant gratification, you could setup device alerts and the messages woild flow to you instantly on your cell phones as text messages. This will eliminate your phone calls to the players and most importantly, to our SCCC 411 service, Sujesh Pullikal!.

Twitter receivers can be many but there can be only one SENDER. For Aces, I will be the designated twitter. For Bees, Ahmad Amin will be the designated twitter and for Seas, we are still looking for a volunteer. So, if you have a cell phone with text plan, can type quickly on your phones and don't mind updating your curious club members, and are selected in Seas, please send me an email and I will make you the twitter for the Bees and Seas teams. The URLs of these twitters are also on the main page of our portal for someone to check the score card from the web. Additionally, we have a general purpose twitter for our general club news that you can subscribe to also.

In summary, to check the status of a game, don't call anyone. Check the following URLs periodically. Additionally, f you want PUSH-based status, sign-up for a Twitter user id, and follow the SCCC<team> Twitter accounts. This way, as soon as the designated twittering folks send the text message, it will be published to all subscribers.

SCCC 2.0

Dear SCCC Members,

As we start the 2008 season, the SCCC management team is very pleased to announce the completion of the SCCC 2.0 initiative that we had started as a beta program in July 2007. This effort was a total team effort between the SCCC technology team and SCCC executives. Frankly, when we started this transformation journey, we didn’t know where we would end-up but we were determined to make a change and take our social enterprise into the Web 2.0 era. Along the journey, we discovered what works and what does not. We discovered each other’s specialties. We had meetings. We exchange hundreds of emails and met many times face-to-face. It was all fun (well, at least for me). And now, we are finally ready to let you have it!

As it happens with any new roll-out, we don’t expect things to be free of errors or problems. However, we do expect you to see improvements in our operational expenses, a superior availability system – when used correctly, and most importantly, a better online marketing brand for our club and members.

Technology Operations Expenses Down to $0

In every organization, the technology department is treated like an expense or cost center. We are determined to change for the Santa Clara Cricket Club. So, with our new solution, based on the free version of Google Apps, our technology expenses have become $0. Additionally, this transition has set us on the course to making technology to be revenue generator – in future – through online contextual advertisements. However, we must have audience before that. We don’t know what and how of that yet. But we will figure it out as we go along.

Superior Availability Management Configuration

Earlier this week, we used the NCCA scheduled spreadsheet and uploaded that to the SCCC calendar in the Portal. Therefore, you as a member, you can go in and submit your availabilities for the full season – of course, you can change them later also. Your advance submissions will help our captains and executives to plan more effectively. This new setup will enable better forecast and predictability of the resource shortages as we go into the season. What is the benefit for our club? Better forecast result will result into better selection decisions, and better selection decisions will result into better results for our games!

SANTA CLARA CC Branded Email Addresses

We have debated this lot internally but we have come to an agreement that the best way to improve our brand is to have Santa Clara CC branded email addressed for all SCCC-related communication. Yes, some of you may disagree, but the executives’ board has felt the need to improve our brand more strongly and a santaclaracc.org-branded email will be one action to get us there. To implement this, we have enabled santaclaracc.org-branded email addressees for all of you. You will also see an email-widget on the left-upper side of the main portal page. Now, the logical question would be how the Yahoo Group will work? For now, Google Apps does not provide Groups integration so we have decided to keep the Santa Clara Yahoo Group. However, the Yahoo Groups do allow non-Yahoo email addresses to be used for receiving and sending emails. Therefore, we recommend that you do that. The instructions to do that can be found at this link.

Online Content Management - Beta

Through the use of contemporary Web 2.0 technologies, we are in the process of improvements in how we do content management across the SCCC website. In many cases, we are dealing with the tools limitations. Therefore, this is an area where we do need to work as we go along here. For now, you can see photos, links and some videos on the main page as we go into the seasons, though; I would be the first one to accept that the presentation of those content items may not be as elegant as in some other professional websites.

Logon to the SCCC Portal and How to Submit Your Availability

Question: Which user id and password do I need to use to logon to the SCCC portal? All User profiles have remained intact since last year. The new members’ user ids have been created with the passwords of “tmp4now”. If you don’t know your user id, please send an email to: support@santaclaracc.org

Question: How do I submit my availability? First, please login to the SCCC Portal with your user id and password. Afterwards, please click on the Google Calendar (middle left). The click will take you to the Google Calendar app for santaclaracc.org domain. And you would see Games or SCCC events as meeting invitations in your calendar. You can accept a meeting to send in your availability. You can always change the availability later on. If you are not sure, you can click "May be" and captains might consider you when there are not enough availabilities.

Tip: The "Agenda" view is best way to see all games in the future and submit the availabilities against them

NOTE: DO NOT click the DELETE option. This will delete the game from your calendar, and then will require a re-invite from the captains

How to Update SSCC Yahoo group with your SCCC Email Address

Please note that each of you now have an e-mail address that is based on the santaclaracc.org domain hosted by GMail. Your e-mail address is username@santaclaracc.org. You will see the e-mail widget as you log into the portal and it is integrated with GMail.

We urge you to change your "Message Board" e-mail address to your "username@santaclaracc.org", so that we can start transitioning over. This will ease your "personal e-mail Inbox" and keep all club e-mails within the SCCC E-mail. You can do this by:

1) Going to http://groups.yahoo.com/mygroups
2) Click on "santaclaracricketclub"
3) Click on "Edit Membership"
4) Under "Email Address" click on the "Add new e-mail address link"
5) Enter your new username@santaclaracc.org e-mail address
6) Log into the SCCC Portal and "confirm" the e-mail that YahooGroups sends you.
7) You are now good to go and all of your club-related e-mails will now be directed to username@santaclaracc.org.
8) If you belong to more than one "SCCC Yahoo Group", then you just need to select the "radio button" for the new address after steps 1-6 is done.
9) Going forward, just keep a tab in your browser open logged into the "SCCC Portal", where you can check your club e-mail.

How to create a cricket pitch?

Greetings one and all...it is my pleasure to create a blog post that documents a communication thread between Sridhar Ranganathan (BBY) and Kalyan Routhu, a cricket enthusiast from Pennsylvania, USA.

Kalyan reached us after Googling on the topic, reading Greg Widdicombe's below mentioned article and finding out that Greg was from Santa Clara Cricket Club. I hope you enjoy reading this one as much as I did documenting it, as it gives a huge perspective on what it takes to build a pitch. It most certainly did increase my respect, appreciation and regard for the work that has been performed by some of our illustrious alumni at Santa Clara Cricket Club. Kudos to Greg, Sridhar and the rest of the gang...We are enjoying the fruits of your labor to this very day. Thank you for the bottom of our hearts!!!!!

To augment the article, Sridhar added the following points:

1. Dig anywhere between 2-6 inches for the entire rectangle of 100 feet by 12 feet (you can also do it 80 feet x 8 feet, if you do not really want any Astroturf at the run up area. We dug 6 inches and we have 2 inches of gravel, then baseball mix with 10% extra loam for the next 6inches. Make sure that you do this with as minimal water as necessary. It needs to be solid, not gooey. Roll with a 5 ton roller to the extent possible. Let it dry in the sun for 2 days and sprinkle water as necessary.

2. Get a Astroturf. Home Depot or something more expensive. More expensive will last longer .. for the more expensive carpet go to http://www.artificial-lawn.co.uk/synthetic_grass.php - you can just search for "Astroturf Cricket" on Google and find most of the specs..

Of all the things, the pile should be at least 7mm high (the range is 6-9mm)...the higher the pile height, the more expensive and more durable the carpet is...but you do not want it to be more than 9mm. The higher the pile high, the slower the pitch will be...7mm is just about optimum. The one at SCCC that we got, when we got it was 9mm. So, it was slow for the first 2-3 years and gradually got faster.

Also, it is better to get close loop turf - these days they use different terminology and new technology has provided brands like pure grass etc.

3. Where to get -- the largest manufacturer of Astroturf in the world is the US.. so you are in the right place.. check out www.astroturf.com. This is where we bought ours. They were not quite willing to sell though.. back then, I called and asked for a favor and at that time, they had a couple of mats that they were about to ship to Australia and they shipped us one. It cost a bomb $5000 (compared to Home Depot - $900) and I could not even negotiate. At that time, I did not even see it, I just took the guys word for it. Their number is 800.723.8873

Thank you so much. This is great help. One quick question. what is 10% extra loam? Basically, dig 6 inches, fill upto 2 inches with gravel, roll it, then fill with baseball clay + 10% extra loam mix. Roll it again using a 5 ton heavy roller.

Sridhar's response to Kalyan's query:

Baseball mix allows you to get a hard surface, Loam usually allows you better drainage. You mix loam and baseball mix and mix them well and fill the crater that you have dug...approximately, the composition of baseball mix and loam is 9-1. You can even go to 8-2 if you need better draining pitch, but the pitch may show wear and tear sooner as the baseball mix is quite erosive - notice baseball diamonds. You really have to mix them well and really, really roll it well.

BTW, if you dig 6", you will need a lot of material (at least 7-8 inches worth of volume of material). Perhaps, 4" is good enough with one inch of gravel and the rest of the 4" inches of baseball mix and loam to get you a 5" base. You can also put in one inch of gravel and one inch of base rock before you put in the baseball mix and loam.

You will need to go one inch higher than the ground level, to allow the pitch to settle and sink in... and it will sink over a couple years...if you can afford it, I would even suggest that you build the pitch about 2 inches about the ground level with a smooth ramp for the runup area. Do pay attention to the side edges of the pitch and create a smooth arc across the width of the pitch to accommodate the one or 2 inches height over the ground level. Do not shape the sides into a beveled ramp, as that would be a big hindrance when a throw comes in or somebody plays a shot that hits the edge.. so a smooth arc should do the trick.

What is LOAM?
----------------

Loam is soil composed of sand, silt, and clay in relatively even concentration (about 40-40-20% concentration respectively), considered ideal for gardening and agricultural uses. Loam soils generally contain more nutrients and humus than sandy soils, have better infiltration and drainage than silty soils, and are easier to till than clayey soils.

Loams are gritty, plastic when moist, and retain water easily. In addition to the term loam, different names are given to soils with slightly different proportions of sand, silt, and clay: sandy loam, silty loam, clay loam, sandy clay loam, silty clay loam, and loam.

A "loamy" soil feels mellow and is easy to work over a wide range of moisture conditions. A soil dominated by one or two of the three particle size groups can behave like loam if it has a strong granular structure (promoted by a high content of organic matter). I was thinking that I would need more material because the level would compress when we roll it. We can dig 4 inches, fill one inch with gravel, one inch with crushed stone and three inches with baseball and loam mix with a ratio of 9:1. I have located a supplier here in New Jersey who might be able to mix the two and deliver it to us instead of us going through the hassle of mixing it.

This is what I am thinking the approach should be. Please advise.

Dig out 70X10 strip to 4 inches
Roll it in
Lay a plastic layer to cover the strip
Lay the 1 inch gravel and roll it in
Lay the 1 inch crushed stone and roll it in
Lay the clay/loam mix 3 inches and roll it in.

Can we lay everything on the same day or do we need to wait for a day for the gravel/crushed stone layers to settle before adding the clay/loam mix?

I also called Home Depot and found Astroturf at 59cents/sq ft. Coming to $450 to cover 70X10. If we wanted to lay Astroturf on top, how do we clamp it to the ground and do we need a padding underneath? I guess I can get that info from Home Depot people

Sounds like a plan.. except the plastic sheet.. the purpose of the gravel and rock to drain water will be lost. Do not lay the plastic sheet.

Get a guy who owns a bob cat and get him to do it for you. Don't even try doing it yourself. If you can find a guy, then this should you about 6 hours or so. He can also do the rolling for you. roll for at least an hour if not more. You will know when it is ready.

Additional notes:

1. Plan on getting rid of the material that you are going to dig up or spread it around really well on the outside of the boundary of the ground.
2. Less water while mixing is better than more water, otherwise you will have to wait for the stuff to dry before you roll.. else stuff will stick on the roller and the pitch will become extremely uneven.

3. You can lay the mat after a day, but make sure that the top is well bound and dry.

4. Use 8-10" nails that are about 1/3" in diameter with proper washers to secure the mat. Hit the nail at least 1.5" inside the mat, otherwise, the nails may rip through the carpet. Use larger nails at the edges and smaller nails along the side.

5. Use a thick plastic, even rubber sheet near the crease area to avoid the bat "tapping" of batsmen ripping the carpet.

6. Use masking tape with a acrylic spray white paint to mark the creases. the crease width should not be more than 1" wide.

7. Use a aluminum cone (look around in the plumbing section of Home Depot and you will find one) that fits the cone of the stump. put that in the ground and use that to lay stumps. Get some soft putty clay or play-doh to fill these cones, so it is easy for the stumps to hold.

below outlines our goals for the day. As you can see there is a lot of
